Pretty sure it means 50 from the line of scrimmage also. I just watched some clips from last year and there were several caught around 45 in the air that would have been 50+ from his release point.

People just don’t realize how far 50 yards in the air is. It’s hard to be accurate from that distance

found the one to Jaray Jenkins against florida in 2022 i was thinking of.
was “only” 47 or 48 in the air.
The first TD in the 2023 Alabama game went about 49 1/2 yards in the air.

How long was that TD to Nabers in Tuscaloosa last year?
Close to 50, but just short. I get it, Joe’s job on MNF is to make it seem like everyone is seeing the greatest play ever. It’s not as exciting if he says he threw a lot of pass 45 yards in the air before

He threw one against Florida from the 47 yard line about 8 yds deep into the end zone to Thomas
Also same thing against Georgia State to Nabers.
Also same thing against Georgia State to Nabers.

not only that, but how often does a QB have enough time for a receiver to get that far downfield other than Hail Mary play at end of half/game?
typically the guy gets a step and you lead him well before he gets that deep.
