Few notables:

quote:

If there was an MVP in the spring it was Matt Canada. Totally different look and more up-tempo. Gives the defense a look one play and then takes it away the next. Keeps a defense guessing. There is still a place for that man-on-man “power” game, but you have to be diverse

quote:

That physical element will always be in play for LSU. You are just trying to put defenders in a spot that takes them from “acting” to “reacting” to a play or a formation. I have no concerns about them having a physical game. That part is still very much there.

quote:

I know Coach O talks about it being an open competition, but for right now Etling is your best option at QB. He looked solid in the practice sessions, but not so much when the lights came on. I know that for him to not perform at a high level really lit Orgeron’s fire

I think Coach O was just lighting the fire under him to be a leader and take charge of this team. He is the starter unless an injury occurs.

quote:

There is no “Joe Montana,” as Coach O says, waiting in the wings. But this staff likes what they saw from Lowell and I think they will like Myles a lot also.

quote:

I think many of the young QBs in the past looked and saw little to no development here at LSU at quarterback under Coach Miles and Cam Cameron. It has been the sinkhole for the Tigers.

quote:

I know Coach O and the offensive coaches liked what they saw from true freshman Austin Deculus inside at guard. The young man is talented. Healthy, that is a good unit. The key upfront is having a healthy Malone and Weathersby in the lineup at tackle all year. And also Clapp at center.

quote:

Lanard ran hard. Now, he is not a heavy-duty back, but in this offense you could see his role expand because of his pass catching skills and his edge ability as a reserve. But he’s a role player.

quote:

But I’m telling you, there is a spot open here for Clyde Edwards-Helaire at running back and also as a receiver coming out of the backfield.

quote:

Gage made great improvement a year ago and the coaches have raved about Drake Davis and Dee Anderson too. Real young at wide receiver and no time to waste. You have to be ready and a greater emphasis on running more precise routes and hitting the mark.

When everything is real, I want to see how they get the speedy Derrick Dillon involved.

quote:

I think in addition to getting the ball in the hands of the backs more as receivers, the expanded role of the tight end will be seen under Canada. Foster is a really good run blocker and receiver

Looks like there is a lot to be excited about on offense.

Will be good for depth. Got some good experience. When Will comes back he will be the starter.

I think Cushenberry should be playing Guard or Tackle at UL-Monroe, McNeese or USL. He's not an LSU/SEC caliber OL.

Heaven help the program if Clapp is not 100 healthy in the Fall or if he gets injured. If the Tigers have to go into any SEC game with Cushenberry at Center, it will be a disaster. Calling it now.

Cushenberry is another one of those "Panic Offers" that come from coaches that get scared when they don't have enough commitments at their position and then start settling for lesser quality players. (No other SEC offers says it all)

That's why the LSU OL is not in such great shape overall and gets dominated by Bama every season. The talent is not there across the board because of poor recruiting. Poor recruiting, combined with "Questionable" coaching/scheme lead to just exactly what we're seeing on the field. (Inconsistency and mental breakdowns in almost every "Big Game")...............

Wasn't he committed to South Carolina before switching to LSU on signing day?

So your evaluation on a guard/center player in his first full year is that is not SEC caliber?

That position is extremely difficult mentality on a young player that prevents them from unleashing their full ability. Give him some time and actually a game to actually write off his career

I didn't realize that, but yes he was committed to SC. He had committed in August the previous year and switched to LSU on signing day.

He had offers from:
South Carolina
Mississippi State
Minnesota
Purdue

Among other smaller schools.

He sucked at that, but o signed the guys that already committed to Miles. So he chose to keep those guys. He also chose to stick with Eitling, another Les recruit.

Umm Grimes was bringing in way higher rated players than what we were used to under stud. Also, LSU also had to move defenders to the oline at the beginning of Les because Saban decide to not recruit oline his last two seasons.

He actually chose to go after the QB from Hawaii who signed with Bama. You don't remember people freaking out because Narcisse decommitted and Brennan re-opened his recruitment back up because of it.

O didn't know he was going to be the permanent coach until the day after the season ended. Pretty hard to get in on the Joe Montana quality QB's at that time.

That said, I think Narcisse AND Brennan are going to turn out to be the best QB's LSU has had in a very long time.

Oline did ok last year and they played a lot Of very good defenses. Looking at the draft and how the sec dominated the draft along the front 7. I think we will be better than last season on the offensive line. And didn't loyd get a lot of praise this spring ?

I think Cush will be good in time.
Lowell is going to be the QB that rises quickest.
Might we see Deculus run the ball for Canada?
