You know how I know I love LSU football? Because I just watched a spring training video of a bunch of players pulling on a towel and LOVED IT. Moar.

Just guessing but looks like they are practicing recovering after getting jammed at the line

My guess is to use a quick and fluid (i.e., smooth and imperceptible at game speed) motion of tugging on a DB's jersey to gain separation, one that won't appear obvious to the naked eye.

It's also a simple drill that the WRs can pair off and do on their own time, meaning whatever practical effect it has can be perfected come the regular season.

Do coaches come up with these types of things on their own through creative innovation ?

Or do they attend special coach camps where they learn things like this?

One of the things I remember most when Coach Cam started was a drill where he had at the receivers stand behind a padded goalpost and catch hard passes thrown at them, it forced them to use their hands and simulated catching a pass around another player, if you were behind a defender, I thought it was brilliant

While this can be a good quality to have, it is not the point of the drill. The point is more to work on being strong in your stance and being quick off the ball. Did you see him bring someone back and he pulled him off the line before the snap? That guy was too far forward on his front leg and not balanced enough. It may seem trivial, but WR's need a good stance and start. These are the fundamentals that get taught in Spring practice.

Looks like they are simulating a defenders out-stretched arm and how to bypass with the uppercut without injury to coach/player
