Yep. But if they had stayed, or the previous DL stayed, LSU could afford to sub more guys, which could have improved play. I completely agree with their decisions to leave but it does take its toll on experienced depth.

you have to remember that both dts are new starters this year. they will get better but not dominant. ww need beckwidth to develop more than we need dts. with 2 solid lbs (beck. and kwon) we will be fine. doesn't mean teams won't run on us but they will not be able to win by just pounding the ball.

Wisky was smoking us by pounding the ball. I know their RB got hurt, but why they stopped running between the tackles is a fortunate mystery. Hopefully Chavis will figure out a scheme that works for us, Im confident he will.

The d line is the weakest part of the team. Next are the linebackers. SEC teams will run on us.

SHSU with a small OL had some success running up the middle in their first few drives . They were so far behind after that they gave up on it to an extent.

This isn't true. LSU dominated SHSU's run game. They averaged less than 2 ypc. I'm a little worried about the run defense, but SHSU provides no negative data toward that.

(the poster who scoffed at the LBers earlier just doesn't know football)

I think he means me. I know football. As a kid, I owned one.

They stopped running the ball because Chavis stacked the box and run-blitzed them. There's nothing mysterious about it.

Teams like miss st and ole miss have a DLine I would love to have. Hopefully recruiting picks up on that side of the ball.

Recruiting on that side of the ball has been stellar.

Can't underestimate that we have lost lots to the NFL the last two years and it is catching up to us. These DT's should be in back up roles this year....learning and not having to carry the load.

Size of DLine may be in question. But there is no question about the quickness of the DLine.

Yeah, they were only getting 3 or so yards a carry up the middle late in the game compared to the large chunks in the earlier part. Also, there were no gains and losses coming up on their rushing attempts with a false start penalty thrown in there as well. Put them behind the chains a lot which required throwing on later downs.

The Valentine kid who got screwed by the admittance process looks to have great potential in my view. May have to wait until next year to see him. Since the latter stages of the Wisconsin game we've seen some progress. This week they'll face a back who gashed an ACC team and MSU the following week so the proving ground is coming quickly.

I disagree. I think it has been average, just like the play.

I agree. The DL will have to step up quickly or we will lose a few games with our schedule. We will find out when we play Miss St. in 2 weeks.

IMO the D line has stepped up already and will continue to improve. The defense hasn't given up any points in close to 20 possessions and 6 quarters of football. Sam Houston has a decent offense that can put up points on most FBS teams.

I've rewatched both games several times and the D line was getting good pass rush on both passers. They're also played a huge part in 3 of our interceptions. Hunter looks impressive against the run, he might only have 1 sack, but he's definitely caused a lot of havoc for opposing QB's the last two games. Him and Rasco will form a solid duo as the season goes on. We should also have a solid rotation at DT with 5 guys playing meaningful snaps, all of them should keep getting more comfortable over the next few weeks.

Overall the D line has been progressing since the 2nd half of Wisconsin. The doom and gloom about them is overblown.

The d line looked awesome in this ULM game. I hope I was wrong about them. You also cant read too much into this game because Im not really sure how good ULM offensive line is but dang they looked good last night. The real test is next week against Moo St...and Devon Godchaux is a beast!

Im with you. Our pass rush is non existant, and our LBs haven't shown me anything this year. I've seen more missed tackles, and out of position, then positive plays. That goes for all of them.

Godchaux is better than lacouture. Les hyped lacouture all spring and summer and he's been average at best.

Godchaux has made more plays than any DT on the team.

I don't see any of those teams beating LSU

Lacouture is the kind of DT who anchors the middle and doesn't give ground. As he develops more he might become the kind of DT who eats up two blockers, like Brockers and Logan were. Remember, he was put out there as a true freshman.

Godchaux is more of a quick penetrating DT. For him to beat out all of the others means he has superstar potential.

I missed the game last night. Besides Lacouture, Godchaux and Thomas, who got playing time at DT, and how did they look?

Sort of like Kyle Williams who was 'the other guy' for so many years on the side of Lavalais, Wroten, and Dorsey.
