The thing Chest really lacked, as did most of the team, was in basketball iq.
Bad decisions, trying to do too much (driving and dribbling), losing his cool and disappearing in the big games against superior big men. Not sorry to see him go. We will actually get to see on this one since we will be playing his team.

When everyone is making bad decisions or has a low basketball IQ what's more likely? The team just unfortunately has 9, 10, 11 individual "low IQ players"? Or they aren't being well coached and are being put in spots to make bad decisions?
If you are going to ask Chest to catch the ball in the post with his back to the basket and try to make a play, OR ask him to facilitate the offense, then expect poor results. But if you are going to allow him to rim-run, screen, and work on the backside of plays to clean up misses, then he can provide offensive production.
If you want to see a comp for Chest, look at JoJo Tugler with Houston. Tugler is 6'7. He averaged 6 ppg. He rarely shoots from the outside. He was the defensive POY in the Big 12 and the advanced analytics had him as the most impactful player in the NCAA Tournament besides Cooper Flagg and Johni Broome.
Chest was the physical presence McMahon has never had at LSU. He the explosive athlete who could block shots and dominate the glass. You don't care that he can't shoot. He defends and rebounds at a high level.

Another option is not getting invested in college basketball (in its current form). The one and done culture did this to college basketball, not the fans.
If Bruce Pearl and Nate Oats can assemble Final Four programs at Auburn and Alabama, and make it to the dance year in and year out, LSU can hire a coach who can at least assemble and develop a competitive team. McMahon is not that guy. That much should be evident at this point.

Why are all you mcmen dishonest hypocrites?
Posted on 4/24/25 at 3:34 pm to Alt26
The same people who were saying he was an NBA prospect 2 months ago are now saying we don’t need him. That tells you all you need to know about the mcmen. Their arguments and logic are purely situational and changes at the drop of a hat depending on which argument they’re making in that moment which are all meant to cover for or excuse McMahon.

basketball is the topic. you don't have to go after everyone who doesn't despise McMahon to the extent required like an attack dog.
like if I say it's possible they could be good next year you don't have to say I am a lying hypocrite with no integrity and I moved the goalposts 8 times etc. you can just say you disagree based on previous record.
I know I am to blame here for feeding the troll, but surely you can calm down?

That’s not only a straw man but an ignorant and hypocritical one. You either didn’t read the full exchange or you’re ignoring part of it because it aligns with your agenda. Either way you’re full of it.

tugler is just better. a similar player, but better. better hands, better moves around the basket.

chest is not a particularly skilled player with great hands like Oscar tshiebwe, and I doubt he will be much different at ole miss. we was a great rebounder because he is incredibly high energy and athleticism. but he isn't very talented.

you definitely care that he cant shoot. there are players that are so good at other things that when they hurt the rest of the offense by failing to space the floor, its ok. chest was not at that level, and even if he was you would really prefer that he shoots.
also houston was a different style than almost every other team. maybe chest should go there. but most teams run offenses where a non shooter hurts pretty bad.
I predict he isn't amazing at ole miss.

There’s zero data to support that argument.

Oh so you guys can use the term only I can’t. I didn’t need you to prove my point for me but I do appreciate you doing it anyway.

Not my fault certain posters lack the ability to defend their positions so they jump to these underhanded argumentative tactics. There’s a reason they have names for these things.
