Is Curry a better shooter than Maravich was? I think it's close.

I'll bet you think Lebron is better than Jordan was too.

Maybe from deep, remember PP didn't play in 3 point era....his mid range game may have been GOAT

people not close to today's game will refute this all day, but they'd also be wrong.

I don't know the answer to this, but it's certainly close.

The most important thing to know is that Pistol Pete could play and be one of the best in today's game. You can't say that about many of the all-time greats.

curry is a better shooter than maravich, particularly off the dribble. maravich was a more creative shotmaker.

curry is the best shooter in nba history and it's not really close. nobody has hit as many shots, unassisted, at such volume with such efficiency.

he is great, and a great person
but please back up your grandiose statements with facts and data

the NBA is full of great shooters with stats to back it up

It's really close. Having seen the majority of Maravich's college games and a hundred or so of his NBA games, I'd say that Curry is slightly better at distance but no one I've ever seen could create, take and make tough shots better than Pete. To top it off, Maravich is widely regarded as the best ball-handler and passer of all time, so his game was more well-rounded than Curry's. Would love to have either on my team. For those that care, when Dale Brown was still coaching he had his staff go back and document the shot charts for every one of Pete's 80 something college games. He hit as many as 11 jumpers in one contest that would have been 3's in the college game. Overall, he shot something around 40% from 3-point distance but his game was so much more that that, just as Curry's is.

Outside of Curry, people don't shoot as well as they did back in the day.

idk why people are being offended by this question. We all love Maravich and he's a great, but Curry pretty much already is the greatest shooter in NBA history. He can get his shot off under any circumstance. It's freakish to see such a high volume shooter be so accurate and efficient. His freaking off nights are around 44-47% which is above average for any other player. He owns the record for 3's in a season and he's second place as well. btw that record is 286. He already has 204 heading into the all-star break. I think he's what Jackson would've been, but I give Steph the edge because he's so effortless and manipulates the game in every way. You have to place so much attention on him it allows the rest of the team to dominate. Curry can just stand a couple feet in front of the half court line and you'd have to play him honest and step out there.

The Pistol and Chris Jackson might disagree with this statement.

Jackson Stats

Curry Stats

Pistol

We love our Tigers, but Curry wins this. Pistol is right there with him, but didn't have a 3 line. Take into account the talent. The NBA is stock full of elite PGs now and defensive stoppers and they still can't stop Curry. He wins the debate

I love the Pistol but Curry is a better shooter. Other than all the things that people have already said about him I'll add that defense of shooters in Pistol's day wasn't like it is today. They guarded the paint and drives tougher but shooters usually had more space than they do today
