The rushing defense has been horrible this year.

That is d line and .ainly linebackers. Safeties some too.

The rushing defense was much better last year.

They need am overhaul at linebacker and safety.

There have been scores of missed tackles though, where the coach had a player in position and the play just was not made. The entire Ole Miss game was one missed tackle after another. All these guys are coached how to tackle. Hell, they’ve been playing tackle football all their lives. They know how to tackle.

This is true. I believe people are accounting for that. Some us talent and some of it is youth.

You see a guy like toviano missing a few tackles but he is playing full speed and is in position.

I will never understand how weeks hasn't at least been rotated in with how bad both Penn and speights have been.

My guess is Penn helps call the defense and gets players lined up. Weeks should be getting some snaps. Speights won't even be here next yr and Penn should be a backup at best.

you can put some blame on the players for how bad this is, but the coach is supposed to be putting the players in the best position for success, and improving their technique and it's glaringly apparent he's not doing any of that

This. Maybe we don’t have the talent we would like to have, but these guys aren’t bad athletes. There is a total failure of defensive development. Poor pursuit angles, bad tackling, terrible communication, unable to set the edge and total confusion in the secondary in zone coverage or “press” coverage. Losing your DL coach to start the season certainly doesn’t help, though.

Rumors of Kelly keeping House is causing us to lose recruits. What CB or defensive back wants to play for this horrible defensive scheme?

I don't understand why Matt House is still on staff.

It's obviously not going to get any better.

What's the worst that can happen? Opposing defenses score on damn near every possession as it is anyway.

2023 LSU Defense:
Total YPG: 405.1 - 106th Pass
YPG: 233.4 - 107th
Rush YPG: 171.7 - 102nd
PPG - 28.9 - Tied 98th
3rd down defense: 58/129 = 45% - 113th

There’s roster issues with depth / talent but it’s not at the level to have these numbers and that bad of a defense.

This defense just needed to be avg (50th-80th)and with good coaching, they would be.

They needed to get 2-3 more 3rd down stops in the OM & alabana games and LSU would be 9-1.

It’s truly remarkable how bad the defensive staff has been.

I forgot how terrible our defense was in the Pitino year. Was it possible our pass defense was even worse that year than now?

We're at the point to where each game we play is not LSU vs the opponent. It's Jayden Daniels vs Matt House and the LSU defense

That is embarrassing.
