Who were the "Fab 5" freshmen rbs that Hallman recruited who didn't amount to a whole lot (i think most of them transferred)

Jay Johnson, Robert Davis, Robert Toomer, . . .

they couldn't touch Odell Beckham.

I think Robert Toomer and David Butler were the only 2 to finish at LSU. Toomer at RB and Butler at DB.

Could be wrong though.

Tell me about it. Hallman recruited some good defensive players--Gilyard, Northern, James, etc. and he did recruit Faneca--our best OL (along with Mawae, Andolsek, Whitworth, Johnson)...sould i include Nacho Albergamo in that number lol

Dinardo definitely was the reason that Faulk came to LSU. He also started the move to close our borders to the out of state schools. Dinardo had a lot of talent in place before Nick Saban got here. Hell he even beat Saban in the Independence Bowl.

Johnson had a very solid second half of the year in '93. He ran well on Ole Miss and Bama.

Davis started out at LSU with a bang, with two 100 yard games...and that was all she wrote.

Butler had hope...all-purpose type back and KR...ended career at db and hardly played.

Toomer looked to be the most talented, but he couldn't beat out Juice Williams and ended up starting one year at FB.

Moore was gone as fast as he arrived.

Faneca and Mawae.

Curley might have recruited him, but DiNardo got him here. DiNardo left his introduction presser and went strait to Carencro to seal the deal.

BTW, Josh signed with Curley but played baseball instead and came back under DiNardo. FWIW

Half of Dinardo's last 2 recruiting classes never even made it to LSU or were kicked off the team. That's when he went around blaming the Louisiana school system for him not winning.

Jay Johnson did not go to Baylor. He got arrested for stealing from cars after his freshman season, then transferred to Grambling and got kicked off of that team after a year or two. He actually signed a brief contract with the Miami Dolphins in 1999 after sitting out for 2 years. One of the best high school running backs that I ever saw and one of the best freshman running backs at LSU.

I thought Jermaine Sharp was one of them. He fumbled a lot and ended up at Southern I believe. He may have been a different year.

David Butler

He went to my high school. Just saw him last year at our alumni softball tournament. He was our pinch runner, dude can still run pretty good.

Back in 1994 he got me and another guy in the football player's lounge area (or whatever it was called). I walked by Jamie Howard in the hallway and played an arcade video game against Robert Toomer. That was pretty cool.
