Sounds like it. But the less Crowton is involved the better.

Cheaper than buying him out.

I believe it's a great move. By having Gonzales in the booth, he will be able to see things CG can't b/c he's at field level. Gonzales simply tells Crowton which plays to run based on how the D is set up. Crowton gets to be on the sideline to tell the offense face to feac what they are trying to do.

So Gonzales is now the offensive coordinator?

Crowton is still calling the plays. If the offense doesn't take off, I can see Gonzales taking a bigger role, but as of right now, I'm pretty sure you don't pay that kinda dough for Crowton to watch him do nothing.

As long as someone is there to talk to Jefferson when he comes off the sideline.

It's been absolutely pathetic for the last two seasons to watch two young QBs (Lee and Jefferson) come off the sideline and not one coach talks to them about what they are seeing.

It is one of the biggest coaching blunders under the Miles regime.

Amen.

I thought the conventional wisdom last year was that Les wanted to get a new OC but was nixed because the AD said no to buying him out and hiring a new OC.

Perhaps if Miles was forced to keep Crowton, he brought in Gonzles as a "passing game coordinator" (which is what I think his title is) and Crowton and Gonzales have each been assigned the duties that Miles thinks they are best at regardless of the name of their job.

Of course it could be nothing of the sort. Who knows?

I've been waiting for somebody to tell the QBs what they should have done on a play, immediately after it has been run. I think Lee and JJ could have greatly benefited from it. These guys are not chess pieces. They need coaching on the field after they screw up. I mean they were "both" first year starters. One didn't have a damn defense, and the other didn't have a damn run game. After they fail on a play, they go back to the sideline and stand around with their hands in their shoulder pads instead of being lectured on the mistake at that moment. That is the in-game coaching we need this year, and every year hereafter.

Took the words right out of my mouth. BG is an in your face fired up guy. I like that on the sidelines when guys are playing less than inspiring football.

I feel Gonzo should be on the sidelines as well. We need more intense coaches running around slapping headgear and getting these kids fired up!

These kids train all summer to get onto the field during games. They experience pain and they sweat and bleed in the weight room and the S LA heat all Spring and Summer doing S&C and voluntary workouts, not to mention Spring camp. They spend hours in the film room.

For this, they get the promise of no more than 12 games...12 chances to go out on the field in the fall to show 90,000+ fans (including family and girlfriends, but not including tv audiences) what all of that work was about. If they aren't careful, they can also get totally owned in front of all of those people.

If they need some middle-aged "intense coaches running around slapping headgear" to get them "fired up", then what the hell was all of that offseason work all about? The program is in serious, serious trouble if they aren't already fired up about it when they lay in bed in mid-summer.

Just letting him save face just like Bellotti did at Oregon. After two years he "allowed" him to look for other opportunities instead of firing him. I just wish Miles would have "allowed" GC to do so after this past season......maybe he did and he didn't get any feelers out there

Imo I like I like the move.
