Some highlights:

Hampton has a hurt back and is out this weekend
Arnold is available
We need to be more aggressive at the plate... swing at strikes... take balls
This team isn’t as talented as he thought it would be
Recruiting is a guessing game
He is happy with the starting pitching

ETA: Exact quotes. I’ll leave my original bullets up for posterity.

“I think our guys need to work on their approach at the plate. We got some young kids. As soon as the lights go on, they forget what they learned in practice and go back to their instincts. Which can be good but college pitchers can throw that slider on the outside corner and you have to be for that especially with two strikes. Hopefully, they will go out there and be really aggressive tonight.”

On approach: “It’s different for each guy. Some guys are power hitters. Some are bat handlers and should never strike out. It all begins with the basic concept that you swing at strikes and take balls.”

“This is when a coach earns his money. You gotta know each player and know what makes them tick. I learned a long time ago... from a 1940s book... Whenever you have a choice between undercoaching and over coaching, always choose to undercoach because when the pressure is greatest, players instinctively go back to what is natural to them... we probably overcoached them this week but I felt it was the right time to do it.”

On keeping Hill as the setup “Hes not a robot... we gotta make sure we keep him healthy”

“You recruit kids and you believe they have the talent to do things. You’re doing it based on them against high school players. Most don’t face 90 mph. So you make your best guess. You recruit the best athletes you can. You don’t really know what you get until you send them out there and face a Texas pitcher throwing 93 with a hard slider. You think you’re overloaded with talent and next thing you know you’re happy if you’ve got just 9 guys... the options are more limited than I thought they’d be going into the season. At the same time, I feel good about the guys we’ve decided on.”

“We do have Zach Arnold back but I’m not sure how we will use him yet. I do like the way Cranford Has been coming along.”

“The big question is LF. Hampton has a sore back and is likely out. Drew Bianca back in LF to give him another chance.”

Maybe he needs to quit talking up some of these players like they're the next coming of Todd Walker before every season

The perfect statement to sum up CPM. What a POS

His coaching advice is to swing at strikes and take balls and then to say that he just didn’t recruit any good players.

Time for CPM to geaux

Ehh, kind of. But when you focus on recruiting raw players with natural talent that need to be developed (like most of the sophomore position players) you can't blame the recruiting aspect when you don't develop them.

Willis, Dugas, and Giacomo have talent and are plenty athletic to be successful on the baseball field. It's why they were highly regarded by professional scouts. At some point they need to be coached up.

He said Arnold wasn't going to play. Did you hear the same?

I did laugh at this a bit with the way he said it.

He literally said that he tries to undercoach because at allows for a players natural instincts to take over (re:talent).

This shite is what drives people insane.

He said he was finally available this weekend. I missed the part where he said they wouldn’t play him yet.

ETA: when the interview is available, I’ll update the OP with any changes or new info. I’m not trying to misguide anyone here.

It was something along the lines of "he's available this weekend" but I doubt we play him. Maybe someone else heard and can clear this up.

What a horseshite stance. It's why we can never run bases worth a shite. It's why we're terrible at stealing bases despite having track speed.

Instincts don't handle nuance. Coaching does.

Big change of pace for Paul to throw the whole team under the bus instead of just one or two players. Class act.

Thanks. I'm second guessing what he said also.

Man, that summary is the perfect example on how to take a pretty good interview and make the person look like a moron by taking every statement out of context.

I’m about to start adding direct quotes. I’m not trying to mislead anyone.
