Now it seems LSU will likely host a regional.

Ok...so?

This team won 2 games....that doesn't mean you should book your rooms in Omaha.

So you're telling me hosting a regional is not a good season? I'm disappointed in the way this year turned out too, but that doesn't mean I have to be unreasonable. 18-12 in this league does not come easily

Wrong. They've won 17 league games

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect more than just hosting a regional. This is a great season for someone like Missouri, or Tennessee. Not LSU.

Anything less than a national seed should be considered subpar at LSU.

It almost always does here.

If you expect to host a super every year you absolutely are being unreasonable.

I think it’s perfectly reasonable to argue Mainieri underachieved as a coach this year.

I think your statement that Mainieri has given up on the team has pretty much been proven wrong.

I think your statement that LSU will not make a regional will soon be proven wrong.

That leads to the conclusion your original post was by a mad LSU fan over reacting to a disappointing season by LSU standards based on the preseason rankings.

I mean you would much have to concede if LSU goes to a regional Mainieri didn’t quit on them. You can’t blame the losses on him without giving him credit for the 17 or 18 SEC wins he gets.

I expect to be top 8 in the country every year going into the regionals. I know it won’t happen sometimes—and those times should be considered a failure. Did you not hear Ryan Theriot last week? Did you think he was out of line?

If you consider not being a national seed "failure" then we may as well just stop the discussion there

No doubt this has been a frustrating year especially with all the #1 pre-season rankings. But considering the pitching woes & how bad we looked as recently as last week I feel we can possibly host a regional now & maybe advance to a Super. That would turn out to be a not so bad ending as this is just not an Omaha team...

Absolutely not. It's nearly impossible to reach the full potential with the injuries in our pitching staff this year though

Failures happen. I have no doubt this team will bounce back and be among the elite once again, but ask any player on the team right now and they’ll tell you they haven’t played to their potential this year.

You said it yourself, this season has been disappointing:

I'm disappointed in the way this year turned out too

Doesn’t disappointment at least imply a certain degree of failure?

let’s win today and see what happens in Hoover. I’m still behind this team, just like you.

Right, but disappointing =/= failure

Maybe we are just arguing semantics here, but in my eyes hosting a regional will never be a "failure"

To me, hosting a regional is the same as winning 9 games in football. It’s right smack in the middle of “good.” No better, no worse. And LSU baseball should always be great.

I’ll give you this. If we host a regional,, then that means we’ll be favored to play for a super regional. The sweet 16. If we can at least get that far, I’d personally be satisfied-based on how this season has gone.

I don't want to see this team go to a regional and embarrass itself. I would rather stay home.

This is such a shitty cowards way of looking at things. What you would rather is entirely irrelevant anyway. It's best for the team and the guys who put on the jersey to make a regional for so many different reasons whether they get punked or not.

In the case of the poster who started this thread, he’s a hardcore Orgeron fan and any potential negative for Wade/basketball or Mainieri/baseball is essentially a wet dream for him.
