Said BK had his team in position to beat UGA, twice with less than four minutes remaining.

Said LSU and UGA were the only teams in the last 10 years who had equal or better talent than Bama

Basically said BK had saved ND after Holtz left and that he’s a very good coach.

I know….Cowherd

As an ND student the basic view is that Kelly took us back near the top but seemed to lose his steam and could never get over the hump. That we’re still not the same ND that we were under Holtz and in the 40s-60s

He’s actually been big on Brian Kelly for years. He always brought his name up as a guy who he thought could do well in the NFL, along with Lincoln Riley.

I’m interested in the next 3-4 years to see if that is on brian Kelly or the recruiting disadvantages of ND. I’m obviously hoping it is ND disadvantage, but we shall see

And never will be because the landscape of college recruiting has changed. NIL may help but these top recruits still need to have grades good enough to get in. Also, just about every single college football’s teams are played on television. Notre Dame will still pull great numbers but these kids have options now to go to other schools and still be seen on nationally televised games

Cowherd admitted that he had written ND off years ago, based on changes in recruiting and the talent level in the Deep South. Said BK succeeded even with those changes.

ND evolved to MAC caliber and BK made them relevant again, if CFP means anything.

Cowherd is a contrarian. He sees everyone talking about how bad a fit BK is for LSU and goes the opposite. He just happens to be right this time. ;-)

All of this is 100% true. I watched ND go toe to toe with one of Bear Bryant’s great teams and win the National Championship. No way the modern era has seen even one ND team in that class.

Kelly was never getting over that hump unless ND was willing to sign players who have no business being in college.

Because ND will never be at that level again. There is a ceiling there plain and simple.

Clemson was better than Alabama in that one game and had the better QB but I don’t think you could look at those two rosters and say that Clemson had more talent. That’s what Cowherd was saying. The 2019 LSU team and the 2021 Georgia teams were the only ones more talented than the Bama teams that same year in the last 10 years. Which he isn’t wrong about.

Clemson would like a seat at the table
