Could we make a play for Bob Stoops?

Could be a very similar situation as Urban Meyer to Ohio State. He’s an a-hole but he wins. OU had some great QB’s under him (Bradford, White and Mayfield) and he’s beaten Saban multiple times. He’s shown that he evolved his offense when he went from the traditional power scheme to wide open with Lincoln Riley. Has strong recruiting ties in Texas and California.

Won a national title at OU and 10 conference championships. He’s only 57. O is 56.

I think it would be a smart play personally. Let’s hope the next AD doesn’t cheap out.

If you have someone better- name them.

And be tethered to a high priced coach who consistently underperforms with great teams? No thanks.

Bob Stoops is not an elite coach. If we are hoping for a coach to do better here than he did in a superior situation, we should at least hire someone younger.

I doubt that Stoops wants to coach anymore. When you walk away in the Spring like he did last year, there was something more serious than burn out....but he always said he did not want to go like his dad did, collapsing on a football field.

He was almost God at Oklahoma.....why leave there to come and deal with the ingrates at LSU?

I had a similar thought about Pete Carroll. It looks like his tenure with the Seahawks is running out. I wonder if he's too closely tied to O, though.

I think you can make the case that Carroll is like Saban- a great college football coach who wasn't cut out for the pros. The difference is that Carroll was more successful in the pros over a longer period of time.

Pete Carroll would be a slam dunk but it would never happen.

Sure, if he wants to be an analyst.

I think Stoops is done, especially at college level. The Mixon deal was probably the last straw.

Now, if NFL came calling, maybe that would entice him.

Carroll is done with college too, I could see him at another NFL team if his days with Seahawks are nearing end.

The pressure on college coaches is only going to get higher with these insane salaries and who is on the hook for those buyouts? You, the fan.

Yea, I thoroughly enjoyed 1/9/12. I'd like to see more of that.

You think Pete is even close to the hot seat?

If you want to go after an over achiever go get Gundy, dude lived in Stoops shadow and had to recruit against him and consistently got his program better... and that is an offense...

They call him Big Game Bob for a reason.

2003 NCG- Loss
2004 NCG- Loss
2006 FB- Loss (to an a G5)
2007 FB- Loss
2008- NCG- Loss
2015 CFP OB- Loss

The dude gets them there, but doesn't win it.

Carroll is a recent victim of player personnel problems and injuries. He led the Seahawks to a dominant Super Bowl win and narrow defeat to the Patriots (which he does deserves credit for the stupid play call).

Carroll took a franchise that has been historically terrible, and made it one of the best over a pretty significant stretch, and has reenergized that fan base. He has been WAY more successful than Saban, and IMHO is a better coach than Saban... If he was LSU's head coach, they would most definitely compete with Bama.

Not a chance in hell. The dude is too entrenched in the Oklahoma community. The even bigger thing is his family history. His Dad died on the sidelines in his 50's. He retired swearing that wouldn't happen to him so he wanted to get away from the stress. No way he comes back to coaching.

So, “big games” are defined as games he loses?

I seriously doubt Stoops or Carroll would ever work under O.
