I would expect that if Collins looked capable of being a solid number two that they would not have recruited the Vandy guy.

2018 or before, safe bet. In this day and age that's not necessarily true. Your depth can disappear overnight based only on some emotion without even a discussion.

The portal giveth, and the portal taketh. You can't assume anything and coaches, who have always been quite mercenary anyway, have now become even more so to match the players.

We can console that overall the portal has been good to us... not counting DBs that is. We did get two Heisman winners from there (and a Natty).

I mean yeah Collins could I guess. But you’ve got one guy with multiple years of starts in the SEC, and one guy that has thrown 2 total passes. I know who I’m predicting will be the backup, you can pick whoever you want.

I still think Collins will never play a meaningful snap at LSU absent injuries or significant unexpected transfers around him. In other words, I don't think he's going to beat anybody out for the job, and will likely transfer if he wants playing time.
