Everything old is new again in college football. You'll see the option return to popualrity again one day. Even at LSU.

LSU has had a option package for the last two years.

why?

that's the only way he lines up at QB in a real QB role
I know, I was just teasing you.

I agree this is the way RS sees the field initially, but I think you are selling him short to already predict he won't develop at least a moderately good passing game as well. The guy has shown himself to be a leader, intelligent, a role player, and a team player. I think he's going to do whatever it takes to improve his QB skills.

If this happens, it will be tough to keep him off the field full time.

Having an option package and successfully using it to your advantage, are two different things though.

Although Georgia Tech had a good team this past year, they have "maxed out" on terms of potential.

running a system he didn't have the right guys for?

it's more about the fact that JJ or Lee will be QB for the next 3 seasons, and shep will have one year to be the starter

i think by then garrett is going to be incredible

he has all the physical tools.

strong arm, tall, and he looked somewhat mobile to me in the spring game, too.

we used the option a good bit in 2007

sometimes very successfully, sometimes with flynn and hester running to the short side of the field on a speed option

crowton has to learn how to call the option with the right personnel and in the right spots. he's still learning how to incorporate it in

more than likely a check at the line.

frankly with the type of athletes we recruit there is no reason to be an option-based team. Mauck, Flynn and JJ are not really option qb's, but can run it on occasion if the defense is not expecting it. Shep would obviously be different.

Shep and Trindon run a few option plays this year

Can't do it - Trindon will outrun the pitch.

if JJ can learn to run it, he'll do fine.

if he learns to harness his speed (aka, learns how to run), he'll do great

The cool thing is you could have 2 quarterbacks in the backfield at the same time. Both could either throw or run. Which mean any play that goes wide would be a defensive backfields worse nightmare. Cover or come up to stop the run, pick your poison.

yeah if JJ can also learn 2 routes we could do some really nice plays with him and shep in at the same time

JJ, if trained, could be a pretty good WR with his height and athletic ability
