I don't think the OP is meaning that basketball become the number 1 sport. I think he is more or less wanting to know if LSU could build a program like Texas or Ohio State; who have had highly ranked basketball teams the last few years. And I don't think anyone considers Texas or Ohio state to be "Basketball" schools. Maybe those aren't the best schools to compare to due to their huge athletic budgets, but you get the point. LSU has beaten both of those teams in recent years.

It would have been great if a foundation had been laid by all the elite LA talent several years ago.

Brandon Bass, Glenn Davis, Tasmin Mitchell, DJ Augustine, Greg Monroe

Too bad LSU fricked that up.

You are wrong.

LSU will always be a football school first and foremost. If the basketball team starts winning, it'll bring in much money than baseball. It's not even close.

There's no reason LSU can't have success in all 3 sports at the same time ... it just hasn't happened yet. College athletic departments don't have to be a zero-sum game in the sense that for 1 sport to succeed, another needs to fail.

I don't think basket ball will pass up baseball. Baseball has six NCs and 15 or 16 trips to Omaha.

And no sport will take over football. Football is the single biggest sport in the South.

In terms of success? No. That's a tall order for any sport.

In terms of $$$ brought in? Basketball can and should easily eclipse baseball.

LSU basketball fans come as the team wins. Right or wrong, that's what happens. So, guess what we need to do to put butts in the PMAC...

Uh, you remember 2006 don't you? Yeah, baseball was 3rd BIG TIME.

It's all about how entertaining the team is. The baseball team starts out 20-20 and baskteball goes 26-6 and wins SEC tourney, you'll see how sports shift at LSU. In 1990, basketball was #1.

Agreed. That's true for both football and baseball too.

As soon as we start winning (on a year-to-year basis), the PMAC will be packed.

Absolutely not.

It will always be a football school.

Basketball could easily overtake baseball with some consistent success, though.

You obviously don't recall the 80's when LSU was a better basketball program than football. I remember camping on the ramps to get the best student section seats.

Florida won 2 straight NC's and they still don't really give a shite about basketball there. Football rules. I think LSU is in the same situation.

Correct. LSU made 15 post-season trips in a row(and another season of 18-9 with no post-season), 10 consecutive Nc2A's and never, not for one moment were they considered anything but a football school that excelled in basketball. Same for the Maravich era and the Pettit era. This despite some under-achieving football seasons while Dale and his players made the cover of SI more than once. Nothing wrong with that ya know.

They were still known first and foremost as a football school.

Sure, Alleva should call Coach K to leave Duke and ask all of his current players to transfer to LSU and all of the recruits to commit to LSU.

Then I think we could.

Absoulutely basketball could overtake baseball at LSU if the basketball program could put together consistent success like it did in the 1980's. Whether LSU baseball fans want to admit it or not, college baseball as a whole is just a blip on the national sports radar.

always a football school....but a winning basketball team wouldn't hurt....something to generate a buzz....

Skip said it best to Les when he told Les he had to report immediately and not coach OSU in the bowl game....

I did not work this way when we won 18 straight SEC home games at one time.

I would have thought after this time u would realize most schools in the SEC ARE FOOTBALL SCHOOLS except Ky.&Tenn. & sometimes Fla. Except for the last 5 yrs. I don't remember much good bb teams from Fla.
