the answer is "maybe"

Auburn would be in the driver's seat for the playoff spot, but would need a win over the SEC East champion

Alabama and LSU might have a claim to another playoff spot barring some losses by out-of-conference teams, and the committee would decide which of the two get in. I'd bet on Alabama getting in, but they might give LSU some credit for the complete turnaround after Les's ouster.

An Alabama team that dropped 2 of its last 3 SEC games and didn't win the West isn't making the Playoffs.

The only way a 2-loss SEC team makes the Playoffs is as Conference Champion.

Even if LSU wins out and is ranked #2 in the playoffs rankings.

Auburn wins out and wins the SEC Title and is #1 overall in the playoff standings?

If LSU wins out and so does Auburn IMO both will be in the top 4 as far as rankings. Not saying they will be selected . That's why I asked the question

So they would be in over an undefeated Pac 10 champ?

If Auburn wins out and LSU wins out they won't be #1 and #2. There aren't enough games left for top teams for all of the losses necessary for that to occur. Just look at the current rankings and try to explain how Auburn and LSU possible end up 1-2.

So LSU beating 2 top four teams and 1 top 10 team and they are already 13th in the playoff rankings.

That would not get them in the top 4 if they win out?

Yeah your scenario has Auburn going.

But if LSU and Auburn win this weekend, we'll have a situation where no team in the West controls their destiny. Alabama would need to win out and for LSU to lose one, LSU would need to win out and need Auburn to lose one, Auburn would have to win out and have A&M lose one, A&M would have to win out and have Bama lose one.

I see your logic, but we would need some other teams to lose to help us. We have climbed leaps and bounds because we were so far back. As we get closer to the top 5 it's much harder to advance. It's easy for the committee to jump us past other 2 loss teams and even some 1 loss teams. But as we approach the top 5, it's tough to have them have us pass up a 1 loss conference champ, or some other undefeated team.

Hell, if we beat Alabama Saturday we will probably still be ranked behind them.

Most of the experts say if we win out we are in for sure. They aren't factoring in if Auburn wins out too.

So what will change if LSU wins out and doesn't go to SEC title game but they are ranked in the top 4 of the playoff rankings?

Are you talking about LSU, Auburn, Bama, and A&M?

It's highly unlikely that Bama and A&M would still be in the top 10 your scenario were to play out

It is my opinion that if LSU wins out, including SECCG, we will end up in the top 4. May need some help, but I think it happens. It is also my opinion that if we win out, but don't win the West, Auburn will be in the top 4, but we will be no higher than 5, thus out of the playoffs. Just my opinion.

Clemson, Washington, and Michigan/Ohio State all control their destiny. They'll be undefeated major conference champs except for OSU, which isn't getting left out either as a 1-loss champ. If those 3 make it in, they'll take the SEC champ as long as they don't have more than 2 losses (I.e. if Florida loses to LSU and FSU but still wins the conference) over a 1-loss Big 12 champ or a 1-loss team that didn't win their conference.

If we don't win the SEC, we're not making it in unless there's some major shakeups at the top. Nuff said

LSU will sit at home while other teams play games and will drop out of the top four.

The experts are making 2 assumptions when they say that LSU will be in if they win out: (1) a "2-Loss SEC Champion" will get a top-4 spot and (2) LSU will be the "2-Loss SEC Champion". The change if LSU isn't the SEC Champion is that Auburn takes that spot.

They aren't going to be in front of Auburn, obviously, so that's 1 spot. They aren't going to be in front of the Big 10 Champ, whoever it is, because that team will either be or will have beaten a Wisconsin team that defeated LSU. So that's 2.

They almost certainly aren't going to be in front of the ACC Champion (I say almost because I guess its possible that a 3-loss team could win the Coastal division and then win the Championship game).

That leaves one spot for:
Big 12 Conference Champs
PAC-10 Conference Champs
Several potential 1-loss Big 10 teams
Louisville or Clemson as 1-loss ACC teams
Any 2-loss Conference Champions
2-loss SEC Teams

It's a big stretch to look at all of that and assume it will be LSU.

Non-conference games have no bearing on conference standings. Same goes for every conference, not just SEC.

One of Auburn's losses was Clemson, and one of LSU's was Wisconsin. Those non-conference losses don't count toward SEC standings. If your scenario plays out, SEC standings would be:

7-1 Auburn
7-1 LSU
6-2 Alabama
6-2 A&M

Auburn would win a 2 way tiebreaker with LSU based on head to head win.
