Mainieri is not sure whether it’ll be Tuesday or Wednesday, but he said junior-college transfer Nick Coomes would get a start at catcher during one of the midweek games. Coomes is a Baton Rouge native and Catholic High product who transferred to LSU from LSU-Eunice, where he hit .359 with 13 home runs and 81 RBI last season.

More Catholic High kids on the field at once, the better IMO

Smith, Romero, Coomes = SHIP

Coomes looks like a thick dude that would have pop in his bat

He had two good at bats in pinch hitting situations this past weekend...he hit a bases loaded sac fly to the wall in left center field wall and then hit a hard line drive to left fielder

Haven't like Pap since the day he got here. Overhyped and hasn't shown anything.

I know next to nothing about how hyped Pap was coming in, but he's never been someone that I look at and say "damn that guy is great"

He's not. He's got the frame that scouts love, but his focus leaves a lot to be desired and he has a lot of wasted at bats. It feels like he could be so much better, but he just doesn't get it done. Hopefully, he will step up this season.

Papierski was not recruited to be a DH. He is an excellent catcher, however.

I recall a ton of passed balls the last two years.

Pap had a rough weekend. Doesn't surprise me that Coomes is getting a shot.

How dense are most people? Pap is easily the best Catcher behind the dish. Early part of the season you get a ton of guys playing time. If anyone is exceeding expectations you allow them the chance to overtake the starter. Pap's bat struggled the entire year because he was trying to be a freaking switch hit. He has struggled, but is sure-handed enough behind the plate where you suck it up. Unless Coomes is as solid behind the plate as Pap, there is no chance we will give up passed balls and extra bases due to poor defense behind the plate.

The correct inquiry is whether you "wanna" increase our chances of winning.

If he will increase our chances of winning, then play him.

If he will not increase our chances of winning, then revoke his scholarship and send him to McNeese.

Good thing your opinion isn't want Paul Mainieri is basing his lineup changes on

Why? Is high school of origin determinative of the LSU Tigers' win percentage?
