It's as simple as the defense having one more thing to account for. Defenses know Nuss is not going to run.

No doubt. Have to condition Nuss that he has to run some next year

I think he’s been playing hurt most of the year. Daniels foot injury has hurt wide receiver. Thomas and Sampson are not Daniels caliber. Dellinger being out has hurt.

BK should’ve gotten one in the offseason

you don't need a dual threat QB when your WRs can get separation

Did Tom Brady have to run? Did Peyton? I know they are two of the greatest, but they managed. I think we line up wayyyy too much in shotgun. If we have someone like Nuss, we need to lineup under center more.

nice thread, we haven't heard that. All these posters see the shiny toy....funny most of those toys aren't built to win it all though as Pro Style QBs have won the better part of the last 15 College National Championships.
Sure, some of them run when needed or available, and Nuss will need to work on doing that in the offseason, but you don't need a dual threat to win...just someone that will run when it is there to take, and Nuss is capable. If dual threats were all it took, the NFL would not have pocket passers (that run occasionally) leading the way. You have Lamar, who chokes every year in the playoffs, and?

It’s more so what it does for your passing

It’s that one seam or lane between the hashes that is opened when that 2nd line of defense has to account for it (LB or S)

It’s what the 1st line of defense has to account for when he hands off

You don’t have to have the best talent at every other position. It can make up for a lesser OL or receivers that get one less step of separation

A QB that has not established himself as a running option puts his team in the position of a hockey team with a man in the penalty box. Handicapped. One man down

Tenner won a championship the year after Peyton. With a dual threat quarterback.

Do you think the offense we run fits Nussmeir’s skill set?

The ONLY way nuss willl EVER become a running qb is to call designed run plays to get his mind in a run mode… the thought of running is so far at the bottom of his check down list he will never start doing it on his own.

The downside is they are probably injured more.

I believe you can win and win big with pocket qb, look how good things were going before Dellinger went down. You got to have the bodies up front to give the qb time.

There used to be a thing they called a running game. It had Running Backs and Full Backs. They were really powerful runners who would punish and defense they lined up against. We used them so the WB didn’t have to take all that physical abuse and risk injury.

Dual threat vs a statue…… you just need someone who can go get a first down. I really thought Nuss was going to be able to do enough……very wrong there.

Having someone who can pull it and score is definitely a plus.

I would first take an O-line that can bully and push back the other team’s D-line in the run game. Give me that and Nuss and we’ll be just fine.

I guess ol' Les miles was on to something with all those dual threat qbs. Although poorly executed I'll say
