I mean one player that we can all agree on that was the absolute best Tiger to ever play his respective position?
When we look back in history at all positions on the field, and we focus on one particular position...is there one name out there that we could all agree on?
Only one I can think of is Faneca.
Mikie Mahtook

Yeah I think Faneca, Brooks and Casanova are the concensus right now.
However, nobody has disputed Dorsey, PP7 or Warren Capone either.
As far as Kicker goes...I don't buy that Jasper surpasses Colt David...Jasper kicked for 2 years and Colt david for 3 (or was it 4?)
Browndyke was a stud and Corbello kicked for 4 as well (I think), but he hasn't been mentioned either. I guess I just have memories as a kid of Browndyke being money.

Todd McClure should get a mention

Colt David's leg wasn't as strong as Jasper's, he couldn't do kickoffs, and Jasper was a highly accurate kicker, better than Colt. Jasper could punt, also, so you can say what you want!

Damn, how has he not been brought up yet? Wow.
OK the Center position has now been eliminated from discussion due to the rule of 4: (Mawae/Albergamo/Wilkerson/McClure)

Ok...Apparently Colt David and Josh Jasper cancel eachother out...that leaves Browndyke and Corbello. LOL

No, it is not eliminated just because people bring up names of guys that are inferior. There should be NO argument that Kevin Mawae is the greatest Center to ever play for the Tigers. And that is not to take away from the others at all.

I agree NY...I thought there would be no debate on Mawae, but nobody wants to crown him.

Didn't someone else do the pooch punting for Kessler, which is one reason he was able to maintain the huge average? I
Witten...same dood that caught the homerun ball against Stanford.

carlos carson wr, eric hill LB...

Kevin Mawae was actually the one guy that so clearly played his football position better than anyone in school history that i would be ok stopping the conversation with him.

Based on his pro career, yes.
I'm never quite sure how much weight to give that in these discussions, though. While, I think it needs to be given some, it can't be the end-all-be-all in evaluating the greatness of a college player.

I was wondering how long it would take for him to get a mention.

Mawae played on the shittiest LSU teams of all time. If he were on the teams of the early 2000s, he would have been an All-American. Center is a pretty hard position to judge a college career on, so I am giving some credence to his NFL career for sure.

Absolutely dead on point!

Don't mistake my position in thinking I'm arguing he was NOT a great center at LSU.

After doing a little more research now, I am not so sure about Mawae. He may be the most talented Center to ever play at LSU, but his Sophomore and Junior seasons, he played Guard and Tackle. Hmmm...
quote:
He started seven games as freshman at left tackle and was Freshman All-SEC, he was also team's long snapper. In his sophomore season, he was a first-team All-SEC selection, playing three different positions; left tackle (8 G), center (3 G), and left guard (1 G).As junior, he played left tackle and was chosen second-team All-SEC and was a third-team All-American. For his senior season he moved from left tackle to center for all 11 games. He played in Blue-Gray Game and Senior Bowl after his senior season. Mawae was inducted into the LSU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007.[2

Mawae is now considered CONCENSUS...again.
