That sounds like a debate...

Now only these remain!

FB-Jimmy Taylor

G-Alan Faneca (who probably should be eliminated since the Andolsek faithful made their thoughts known.)

LB-Michael Brooks

I can't argue with the other 3, but if big Leonard Marshall would have played on championship caliber teams like Dorsey did you would have seen some destruction!

Man, I started this thread thinking that Faneca would be a LOCK, but I didn't think Andolsek would challenge him like he did.

Every Tiger just automatically loves Andolsek for whooping Chris Spielman's arse.

I think you could argue that Chris Jackson was more valuable by the time he was a senior.

Debate is fine. You can debate about a position all you want. Whatever the majority decides, that is the consensus.

If you want a player/position where there is no debate, that would be the unanimous decision. Cmon man.

And there was a similar push for Eric Hill early - but - great players Hill and Andolsek were - but, LSU has only had 21 AP All-Americans - Brooks and Faneca were 2 of them, Andolsek and Hill were not.

Andolsek and Hill are two guys I would want in my corner when a fight breaks out.

(ETA: Andolsek and Hill are also extremely popular with the LSU fanbase at large - Andolsek probably in the top tier with Bert Jones/Joseph Addai/Jacob Hester in popularity, and Hill not far behind.)

One of the main reason LSU has fewer All American than most school is because LSU did not believe in promoting players.

Also form 1900-1945 Northern school got near every All American.

As the Miami newpaper said after the 1944 Orange Bowl forget everything you have seen about All American's Steve Van Buren is the best player in college football.

Eric Andolsek was the best offensive lineman at LSU in the 1980's and was better than any lineman formt he 60's or 70's I saw and is still one of the top 2-3 lineman in LSU history. He should have been an All American at LSU but like many player was robbed (maybe it was even armed robby).

I'm an Andolsek fan. Faneca was signficantly better. As to your point about AA - I agree it's political to a point.

The NFL isn't very political. Livelihoods and big money are on the line. They are not always right (especially about QBs).

Alan Faneca was taken with the 26th pick of the 1998 NFL draft. Andolsek fell to the 5th round. Not that I care about the NFL careers for purposes of this discussion, but it is support for Faneca as the consensus best Offensive Guard in LSU history. Having said that, Stephen Peterman went in the 3rd round and I do not consider him a better OG than Andolsek.

Roy Winston, on the other hand - was probably better than Andolsek, though it's tough to compare eras.

(ETA: I agree about Steve Van Buren - also overlooked in LSU history, one of LSU's better skill position players - maybe not quite in the same league as Cannon, Faulk, Peterson or Casanova, but certainly right in the next tier)

Not disagreeing with all of this, but only some of it. The NFL draft is a not a good barometer..
Sign Tom Brady, Joe Montana, etc.
When Eric was killed, Barry Sanders production dropped off trmendously the 2 years following his death just like K Faulk's did when Alan left. I am not saying that Sander's production was linked totally to EA, but it is more than a coincidence IMO. The lions also sucked as an organization as a whole for most of his career.
