His father is from Mamou I believe
Correct and his grandmother still lives there. Austin was born and raised in Cypress TX.
He said when he was filling out his profile information for his bio on LSUsports.net he put he was from Mamou in honor of his dad and because he always likes visiting his grandma in Mamou.
Another quick tidbit is that Austin's dad is short. Somewhere between 5'4" and 5'7". Nothing at all like Austin.

How tall was there mail man back in 1998?

Yep that's Austin's dad
Daily Advertiser - LSU offensive tackle Austin Deculus may live in Texas, but his heart is in Mamou
It looks like he was born in Mamou but moved to Cypress soon after.

Deculus even had LSU's sports information department list his hometown in the media guide as Mamou.

Wasn’t 100% sure but figured it was, he looks like a Mamouligan. My dads family is from there, huge family, and some know him.

"Eric is looking all mean and nasty and trying to intimidate us at the toss," Spielman said last week. "The next thing I know we're interlocked and I'm thinking, 'Man, the strongest human being in the world has ahold of me. It's going to be a battle.' " - Chris Spielman
They ended up very close in a short time in Detroit.
Some of y’all have no idea the unearthly player Eric was. I could describe him completely humiliating Eric Hill after a late hit on Mickey Guidry in practice and you’d swear I was lying.
Eric Hill bowed to no man…….except one.

That was the all-time GOAT offensive line at LSU--they could blow open huge holes for Slip Watkins, Victor Jones, Darryl Williams and Eddie Fuller. They made it possible to not really miss Harvey Williams when he was on the sidelines much of his career as a Tiger

Well Andolsek, Nacho, Melancon and Hazard were gone by the time Fuller was starting but Pack, Norwood, Hubicz and Ruffin were still all there. Just an incredible group.

Jay is an orthodontist now. He put braces on my teeth. Great guy. We talked a lot about the Tigers.

You know your timeline.
The real break was 1987. That 10-1-1 year with whipping USCe arse was one of the greatest Tiger teams ever.
But Ralph was front and center. Jim in reserve duty.
Just such a regal time for Tiger lore. I recall that time like a fricking fairytale.

If I recall correctly Tigers opened second half of '97 Independence Bowl against the Irish by running the ball 9 consecutive times, most behind Faneca. Mealey scored on a short goal line run behind 2 Faneca blocks: a pancake block of ND LT and then a driving block of the LB halfway through the end zone. Incredible talent.

And on the same off line was Todd McClure.who played 13 years in NFL as center for the Dirty. Birds! Prob ends up on Atlanta’s ring of honor. That’s a nasty off line LSU had.

I don’t know if the younger fans realize how incredible LSUs offense was for that era. Hodson smashed the SEC passing marks by a mile. Harvey Williams averaging 6.5 per carry didn’t get touched for 17 years. Sammy Martin was a near 6ypc back, Wendell Davis produced record numbers. Eddie Fuller, Sammy Martin and Harvey Williams are 3rd, 4th and 5th alltime in receiving for LSU RBs and they all played together. Those guys wouldn’t have been able to have all of that success without that offensive line.

Jay Whitley was a Center for the' Root Hogs 'and paved the way for Charles Alexander. Jay was also State Wrestling Champ from Lee High. He deserves some attention as well.
Jay is now an orthodontist , very nice guy. Put braces on my son.

I know his family. He doesn't have a sister. They are from Mamou!! Not Ville Platte.
