I know you want to give your defense ALL the credit, and they do deserve a lot of it but don't be a complete homer. Choosing to keep your offense off the field is different than running up the score. It is much easier to get the clock to 0:00 while on offense.
ETA: I realized I only pointed out the one thing I had a problem with, overall thanks for the great post.

Also...my kids started going to GT football games at 4 weeks of age. My daughter can name most of our starting players and recognizes them by their face as we have mingled with them on many occasions after practices and games outside the locker room.
We are CLOSE to the program. O'Leary held my son just after he was born...and Gailey my daughter. My kids have had many a conversation with Jon Dwyer, Roddy Jones, and Daryl Richard.
In summation...my 7-yr old daughter knows more about GT football than most GT adult fans.

Let me help you understand a few things. The triple option is not going to work against major football teams.
I agree with this. We had this situation at Arkansas under Hatfield. We had some success when Texas was in a bit of a tail-spin, but were totally exposed in several other games.
I'd bet that GT, however, in the weak ACC could enjoy 9 or even 10 win seasons with some degree of regularity. I just don't think you could win the SEC w/ it

I agree that SEC is generally better than the ACC year in and year out.
I do not think you can say that this year...particulary with Wake beating Ole Miss, lowly Duke beating Vandy...Clemson beating SoCarolina...and our win over UGA.
There is more balance this year than you think and it is relfected in the 6-6 ACC/SEC record against each other this year.
You cannot make wild assumptions based off one day of football.

I dont see the big deal at the fake punt. the goal of the offense is to keep the ball out of the other team's hands and to score points. LSU did NOT score any points late. Classless would've been scoring meaningless TDs in the 4th a la Oklahoma and Florida.

Appreciate your comments, every team should play to win at all times. The fake punt was good in my opinion. I think GT just got wrapped up in the media hype that they would crush LSU. All the breaks went to us early. Good luck next year!

Good post. I do believe that the trip option is a bit if a gimmick offense, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that it can't be effective. I have a feeling that it will improve as those players mature and PJ will add more wrinkles. It would be extremely tough to defend if balanced with a good passing attack. As a few other posters mentioned, they will get diminishing returns as other teams figure out how to defend it unless they get more balance in their run/pass ratio.

Reading comprehension is your friend. Not trying to be an arse; however, I did not address anything other than the option offense you run. I alluded to the fact the we at Arkansas had a multi-year run w/ Ken Hatfield's 'flexbone' back in the 80s. He too had more than a bit of success at a service academy before he took our job. I have reasons for my opinions. You are free to disagree w/ me, of course.
The option offense is just fine for you, and I think you will have some success in the ACC w/ it; more success than you would have in the SEC. I think that more talented teams will control you, and you will not be able to play catch-up ball when the need arises. Wait and see.
I believe you made the 'wild assumptions,' didn't you?

While I agree the fake punt might have been in poor taste, what does it say about a coaching staff that teaches chop blocking as a blocking tactic? Charles Alexander has missed roughly two full seasons from ankle and knee reconstruction and has struggled with the leg the entire season. In the first quarter Tech's #71 commences chop blocking Alexander's knee like he wanted to go down in history as the new Chaz Ramsey, then the other guard dives at Alexander's knee and puts him out for a series later in the game. That is classless IMO, much moreso than a fake punt.

Hey....it was just one part of a bunch of notes I posted on the game. I also talked to a couple of very cool LSU fans outside the obstacle course at FanFest.
No worries...I straightened her out...she knows UGA is the worst congregation of folks in the land!

Hopefully I can shed some light on this since I see every GT game multiple times...and practices..and have spoken to our OL coaches ad nauseum.
We do not teach chop blocking. We teach cut blocking, just as you see every team do....just ours much more than others. As you know, cut blocking is legal.
We have had chop block called on us 7 times (pretty sure 7) this year. In every case it was a guard...and in each case it was either #71(Cord Howard) or #70 (Joseph Gilbert). Both of these are first year starters...and in every case it was a running play where they were supposed to go get a LB because the C had the DT. When this happens it is a missed assignment.
Our guards always fired off low and hard (at least they are supposed to!)...if they come off at the same guy as the center at the same time...there is not much they can do at that point except hope it is not caught.
I cannot reiterate enough that this is not taught. Why in the world would we want a 15-yard penalty? It is a drive killer.
The ACC has asked Paul Johnson to teach a class during the referee "summit" during the offseason on cut blocking vs. chop blocking. Paul Johnson maintains that chop blocks are being allowed around the country on pass protection....but not on running plays. If you watch a lot of passing team films...you will notice this.

Believe me, when Alexander was engaged and stood up by the center and 71 drove into the side and back of his leg while Alexander was engaged by the center it was an obvious chop block and was called immediately by the ref. AU claims they don't teach it, either. I like G Tech, I pull for them about 99% of the games and especially against UGA, just telling the truth in what happened on that play and what I saw later in the game and on the DVR.

I never said it was not a chop block...I just said it is not taught, nor intentional.

I have gone to home and away GT games for 30 years...and UGA is the only other fanbase I experience fans talking back and forth to each other...instead of talking outwardly to nobody in particular. There was even some LSU guy in our GT section (with fat girlfriend next to him...of course wearing a mid-drift and sporting a tramp stamp above her crack) that felt the need to turn and face the GT fans above him after every positive LSU play and raise his hands like he was a boxing champion. It was very strange since the average age of the two rows behind him was probably 70! It must have been some old GT alumni group of blue hairs...a strange scene! My 7-yr old daughter said that "dad...I think I like UGA fans better.". I was shocked as I have worked hard to brainwash them that UGA is the anti-Christ! Same thing happened in 2000. Maybe it was the same group of fans! I told them that every school has their bad fans...we just ran into a bunch of them last night. Like I said earlier though...I have really enjoyed the dialogue on this board the past month...some great folks on here. I wish I had met up with some of you guys instead
