Flynn also led the team to a 10-2 record, but lost on the road to unranked Kentucky .

I thought they were ranked #17 or something close to that

Russell was a better college qb than Flynn.
And I really liked Flynn as a qb

I think this showed Jefferson is obviously a superior runner than the rest.

no kidding... He won the national championship game so I guess it worked out well.

There is nothing wrong with liking Russell, he did great things. Personally, I like all the guys mentioned and think they had great careers. I think championships carry extra weight when it comes to your legacy. Would any of us even know Warren Rabb if the 58 team did not win the title?

JJ hasn't had enough snaps or played enough this year to put him above those who played a complete season.
Probably.

However, we can compare careers. Jefferson and Mauck are probably tied for the second best career.

i hope that we can all agree that none of the QBs in this discussion were good enough runners to really use this variable
Maybe not coming out of high school. Certainly none of the five are or were elite runners. However, Mauck had some pretty good wheels before he got hurt. And Jefferson has turned into a pretty nifty part-time option QB.

Their stats are a little more complicated to synthesize and analyze.

I love how Jefferson has the lowest TD %, probably the stat that matters most...and this thread is being used to tout Jefferson.

No comparison. Flynn won the National Championship. Russell did not. That is it, plain and simple.

In all due respect, Jefferson has played more over a 4 year span than any of the aforementioned QB's. In reality, he should have better numbers than any of them.
What you should be saying is that Jefferson should have the best final year out of all of them.

Nearly every QB has better stats as they gain maturity and learn the system. Freshmen and sophomore QBs tend to have crappy stats. Thus, if a QB has lots of stats from his early years, his career stats will tend to look worse than someone who had the majority of their starts as a senior.

Flynn got most of his starts after he had matured and learned the system. So his stats should be the best.

quote:

As far as Jefferson having the 2nd best senior year, we will agree to disagree. It's hard to make that claim on basically 4 games, Bama, Western KY, Ole Miss, and Arkansas. If he had played all 12 games thus far and the numbers were the same, I would agree with you. But to say he has had the 2nd best year as a senior, is a little far fetched.
Perhaps Jefferson has too few starts as a senior to compare his senior year. [

quote] Lee would be ahead of him thus far for a senior season. [/quote]This is somewhat moronic. Either you can compare Jefferson's stats or you cannot compare them.

What you cannot do is say that Jefferson doesn't have enough starts and then say that his stats are worse then Lee's. They are not. Not even close. Not for 2011 and not for their careers.

I wish MF could have played against the weak defenses this year (besides Bama).
Defenses have gotten weaker?

LSU played an easier schedule in 2011?

quote:

Oh, and Flynn had Crowton.
First, Flynn did not have Crowton's system. Second, Flynn had exponentially better QB coaching in Jimbo for four years. Third, Flynn did not have Crowton for those same four years.

Any QB thread which excludes the two-headed monster that was Chad Loup and Sol Graves does not get my attention.

Yeah YOU TELL'EM. Crowton didn't start at LSU until 2008.

Making up tables? The tables are almost verbatim from the NCAA statistics.

I don't have any more interest in Jefferson than I do in Lee. However, I do spend some time refuting idiots on this board. It's easy, it's fun.

Particularly, when morons like you make moronic posts the way you do.

Yeah, like Flynn never playing under Crowton.

First, you're not going to find any person with any football knowledge to suggest that TD% is the stat that matters most.

Nobody believes it. I doubt even you do.

Completion percentage is probably the most important stat. Yards per attempt is probably the second most important stat. QB Rating is certainly up there too.

Second, this thread was not drafted to tout Jefferson. I merely wanted to compare QBs and show that Lee and Jefferson are comparable to the three most recent, quality LSU QBs.

My apologies.

Create your own QB thread.

Of course, any admin who thinks that Jefferson can only "chunk" the ball does not deserve my attention.

Well what's the QB's ultimate goal? Field goals? three and outs?
