Does it bother anyone else to see partial innings written like this? What is 1/10 of a inning? 1/3 of an inning is 0.3 and 2/3 of an inning is 0.6.

Just sayin

Because an inning is given a value of 3… as in 3 outs. So a third of 3 outs is 1/3. They just use .1 and .2 as place holders for the number of outs achieved in that particular inning.

It's always been done this way, and is really quite simple.

Pitched two scoreless innings for a save.

Well if it's always been done that way, by all means let's keep doing it. It's not like we ever do anything in society to evolve.

0.1 means 1/10th. No pitcher completes 1/10th of and inning. Sorry you haz no math skillz.

it .1 and .2 are much easier for a box score than .33 and .67.

I prefer it the way it is.

I hope when you calculate ERA that you don't use 0.1 and 0.2.

It's easier to type in stats using the .0, .1, .2 system. In this case, it obviously doesn't literally mean "one-tenth," but instead "x innings and x outs." It just takes on a different meaning.

For an example, in real estate appraising, they've switched calling a half-bath ".5" because if you have two half-baths, it'd just add up to a whole bath, which isn't the case. So if a house had three bathrooms and a halfbath, the appraiser would type it down as "3.1 bathrooms"

In math, yes. In pitching statistics it means one out.

I believe the coaches don't vote after the first weekend, so the USA Today/Coaches Poll is going to stay the same this week. But they vote next week.

So basically, the answer to my question is, "No, it doesn't bother anyone else."

It doesn't, because it's silly to be bothered by something that completely makes sense unless you choose to believe otherwise.

I don't want to come across as some jackass paranoid homer but I can't help but feel Winston will cause FSU to earn a few more votes than they should when it comes to tournament seeding time. I can see ESPN rubbing their hands together at the thought of a seeded FSU.

I know it sounds insane but the fact that his only stats of the weekend were getting walked and throwing two scoreless innings were the only kind of baseball coverage I saw on a ticker this weekend is sad.

True, but we have Kim Mulkey-Robertson's son on our team. He made SportsCenter top 10 plays of the day. ESPN loves women's basketball, so therefore, they love LSU baseball.
