It certainly seems a bit worrisome LSU looks like they will have to rely upon a DB with a largely non-descript career at McNeese to suddenly be able to contain SEC WRs week after week. Then again, this could be one of those great fairy-tale like stories. Although relatively rare, they do happen.

I typically would agree but:

1) Someone who is 165 pounds could be extremely capable and still written off simply because that is too light to play - adding 25 pounds of muscle at 24 really turns someone into a completely different prospect.

2) Frank Wilson obviously knew the entire team at McNeese very well - and likely was pretty familiar with the rest of the rosters of small schools throughout Texas and Louisiana - and this is the only guy he went after. That says something, I think...I wouldn't say "nobody has found him" when he was "found" by the coach who has seen him the most in games and practice. He may not have expected him to start, but we didn't burn any of our other transfer spots on guys who aren't expected to contribute at all.

3) The guys he is competing against are to some extent known quantities - it's not like he's only running with dudes who were on the squad last year. Banks, Garner and Bernard-Converse are generally acknowledged as SEC caliber players, and he's by all accounts hanging with them. He and Jordan Toles started this fall in the same CB room and now he's taking 1st team snaps while the formerly highly-ranked Toles is in the portal. If it were the other way around I don't think there would be as many doubters.

Personally I suspect that he's being looked at more as a way to control the snap counts of the transfers recovering from injury and I would still be surprised if he ends up as "the guy" on one side, but Richardson seems to be at minimum a serviceable option for meaningful snaps in the SEC.

And apparently got absolutely destroyed by A. Goodwin during last week's scrimmage. Not a knock on him--just makes me really excited to see Goodwin.

Sold or not, if he’s starting then that means he’s better than whatever else we had at cb

Why does everyone keep saying that he’s starting…all I’ve heard is that he’ll play a lot

The coaches have said that he's running with the 1’s & so far has looked like the best CB in practice.

If our #4 outside corner, which I believe is what Richardson is, can be as good as Darren Evans was at the end of his LSU career, we’ll be in good shape (considering that Darren Evans was our starter for the back half of 2021 and was more or less fine).
