The guy was a RS freshman. But you're probably right. He really sucked and never had a chance to get on the field

Roll your eyes if you want to, but chazz is right. Reine wasn't going to start over guys like Mitchell, Landry, Mahtook, Schimpf, Watkins, and Dishon. He found another school with a better opportunity and I wish him the best.

Cody never came close to seeing the field at LSU. Every player I spoke to his last year knew he would be cut because he wasn't good enough. Gotta make room for players who might see the field.

4 time all state selection (in 5a), 2 time All-American selection, well over .400 avg throughout HS, Batted leadoff in the 2007 playstation all american game and went 3-4 with a double and 2 rbi's, 2nd best bat on the team only behind Dean, also was told by Mainieri he had the best glove in the outfield.

but yeah you're right, he wasnt good enough...

The guy could flat out hit. Schimpf and Mitchell are gone. Watkins was not in the mix last year. Dishon is a big question mark. I'm telling you that he would have been somebody who's bat I wouldn't mind having around. I watched a lot of fall practice last year and I'm telling you the guy was one of the most consistent true hitters on the team.

ETA: I also heard that grades or other things were an issue as well

Yes he was easily one of the best players on the team. But what I don't get is, if the issue was grades how wasn't he passing? I mean Shaq went to LSU, aint no way Cody was dumber than the Shaq-tus haha

I dont know if it was for sure grades. I just remember hearing it wasn't a decision that was completely based on baseball ability

Theres no telling, but I know he's happy at OU and we can only wish him the best. Mainieri let go of a true stud.

So if Mainieri cut him that leave one of three possibilities.
1. PM is a dumbass for cutting one of his best players
2. Reine had other problems (such as grades or attitude)
3. You have no idea what you are talking about.

Why else would such a player get cut?

He IS at LSU this year

Dishon is a big question mark.

Dishon stayed around and battled and may become a big part of LSU's offense this year.

OU also has a Tulane transfer committed to them currently I believe. Evan Mistich from Houma left Tulane for Panola and is now committed to OU.

Yes, I received word a couple weeks ago that the plan is to keep his redshirt on. Dozar will be the primary backup.

Great! I can't wait.

i thought reine was a bit overrated. nice pure hitter, but i did not see him as a player who could see the field a ton at LSU. you never know what can happen, but i just didn't see him competing with mahtook, dishon, and watkins as some of the talented young outfielders.

Yes he would. Mainieri told him to go to a JUCO for a year and come back and he'd have the RF position. Cody said frick You, and went to OU.

Yeah, this makes a lot of sense.

I'm glad the kid is doing well. But, with the limitations on scholarships, he had to go...and that was because he was viewed at the time to be the less valuable than the players kept.

In other words, he wasn't good enough to make the 35 man roster. Sorry.

you really want to get back on the subject of him not being as good as any of those overrated outfielders? Mahtook is terrible at judging a ball in the air. He just makes up ground extremely well, as does Leon Landry. Cody had the best fall camp before he got cut. "Best outfielder"- mainieri, not me. Top 5 Bats, on the entire team. Obviously him being cut had something other than ability to do with it. I have never asked him what it was because I have too much respect and I know it is personal.

Guess going to OU is helping him become a better father. Hope he does good and makes it to the league

Why didn't he play as a freshman?
Why did a guy like Dishon get kept over him?

The answer is simple. At the time, he was viewed as not as valuable.
