If you want an actual comparison:

Marcus Freeman
Record: 30-9 (No Conference)
Bowls: 2-1
Recruiting Class Finishes: 12th (2025), 9th (2024), 12th (2023), 7th (2022)
Heisman Trophy Winners: 0

Brian Kelly
Record: 28-11 (SEC; 2022 SEC West Champs)
Bowl Record: 2-0
Recruiting Class Finishes: 8th (2025), 7th (2024), 6th (2023), 12th (2022)
Heisman Trophy Winners: 1

Those scraps helped BK have his best year of the 3 and won the West. It will be interesting to see how BK does next year, yet another year removed from the disaster he took over. What will be the excuse next year?
You should stick to talking about myths.

I wouldn’t compare but would take him over Kelly if given choice

Well despite the all the comments about what each coach inherited, they both had teams this year that were made up of three years of their own recruits. ND's record under Freeman has improved each year and they are currently 11-1 and will most likely be in the NC Playoffs. While Kelly won an SEC divisional championship with the "terrible team" he inherited in his first year, this years team with three years of his own recruits is 8-4. Despite all of that I think I would wait until after next year, after they each have four years of their own recruits, to decide which one I would rather have.

Not a Kelly apologist by any stretch, but that is an apple and oranges comparison. ND schedule is a joke. Plus, it is my opinion that Freeman inherited a much better situation at ND then Kelly did here. Of course we were told to judge him on 3 years performance and , well.. here we are. I don't think he was totally prepared for how large the job was here. Hopefully he will shine next year.

Compare how? He is doing exactly what BK did at ND. Only difference is BK built ND up after they were terrible.

Exactly. And Bk had plenty of bad years to go along with that “weak” schedule at ND

LMAO!! How many is plenty?

Why ask when you already know the answer?

think everyone can agree on here that Kelly has underperformed the past two season

We finished 12th in the country and had a Heisman winner in year 2 of an actual rebuild of a roster that literally didn't have a roster of 2 deep on scholarships.
I swear our fan base acts like 2020 and 2021 orgeron and the massive mismanagement of our roster never happened.

Bottom line, do you honestly believe in 2024 that Brian Kelly did a better job coaching his football team than Marcus Freeman did coaching his?

I don't think anyone has any way of actually knowing this.

Is having quarterback with the skills to win a Heisman Trophy quarterback your team for two years a positive or a negative for Kelly when comparing the teams results? In other words, would Kelly's record be worse if he wouldn't have had that Heisman Trophy winner?

One was left with a great squad. The other rolled up on ed O's car wreck.

Actually, we finished 17th in 2022 after Kelley inherited the "massive mismanagement of our roster" and 13th in year 2 (last year) with a Heisman winner. This year with three years of his recruits and management of our roster, we are 8-4 and unranked.

People love to talk about how many games that BK won at Notre Dame but now that he’s not there, winning a bunch of games at Notre Dame isn’t that impressive.

It's less impressive because BK won 54 games over his last 5 years at ND before handing it over to Freeman. BK took over a losing program that was irrelevant for almost two decades and had them undefeated and in the national championship in year 3 before portal quick fixes.

Despite only having 1 win against a currently ranked team in #24 Army and the awful home loss to NIU, I do think Freeman has done a nice job this year. 11-1 is usually difficult to do regardless of soft spots in the schedule. It's just not all that impressive when you consider the program/roster that Freeman inherited.

We had 12 players drafted from BK's first two teams. The rosters were thin but ithey were talented.

And for a HC with 32 yrs experience, what happened on defense last year is inexcusable.

With a great chance for 9 wins and finished ranked...

We replaced both coordinators and 97% of our offensive production from last year.

There was a reason all of our good players on defense were young. The last of orgeron's classes were atrocious.
