Coaching Moves CPM Should Seriously Consider

Let me preface my remarks with I'm a fan of CPM. IMO, he's the most accomplished coach on campus.
And there's a lot of baseball sill to be played this season. I'm on board to the last out.
That said, pitching injuries (whatever their root cause) are biting us bad going back to the '17 CWS. Simply put, how much can we rely on pitching?
And though Dunn is a reputable pitching coach, I'm not sure the #'s show learning under him 2-4 years makes a big difference in developing pitchers for MLB.
So here's my idea:
- Dismiss Dunn
- Let Cain assume the pitching coach role
- Hire AndyC
- Structure the team to win shootouts

Then hire the next closest thing.

If we’re hiring high school coaches, there’s thousands to choose from.

CPM needs to move himself out of LSU.

I agree CPM and his entire staff needs to go...he has sucked the life out of Alex box and turned LSU INTO A mediocre program...
Bring back ANDY C .....
Bring back ANDY C .....

I thought, just for a brief moment, that this might actually be a serious discussion about baseball.

I did too.
I thought we were going to talk about how Fontenot does not need to be the closer any longer.
Maybe put Hess back in that role.

Everyone else is blaming the non-paid hitting coach. The one thing you guys all agree on is nothing is CPM’s fault.
I think we have perfectly good assistants and a trash HC; but it just gets me downvotes because of CPM’s cult following.

Since he has great talent and great assistants in your opinion, what is it he is doing so terribly to coach the team? Which moves?

Retirement is a great move.

Say what you want about the need for a hitting coach, but no one in his right mind thinks a hitting coach is as important as a pitching coach. The most important assistant coach, imo, is the lead recruiter. Second is pitching. Third is infield, and fourth is hitting.
You might switch #s 1 and 2, and maybe #s3 and 4, but the money should be spent on recruiting and pitching, just as CPM is doing. I don’t have an opinion as to whether the right guys are in those roles.

Ive been saying this for a few years now.
I just dont see it. How many pitchers have gotten better under him in their 3-4 years at LSU? Look at a guy like Caracci from Ole Miss. Guy could barely make the roster and redshirted his first 2 years. They worked with him and now hes a legit closer and was selected in the MLB draft last year.
Who is Alan Dunns Parker Caracci? What guy with raw tools has he developed into a reliable option? Everybody either stays the same or regresses.

I agree with you but I think the bigger problem is that with only 3 paid positions, you have to have a HC that specializes in one of those critical areas. Otherwise youre wasting a paycheck and a coaching position.

He's actually a HS coach-in-waiting.

What? Our pitchers, when not hurt, have generally improved throughout their LSU careers.

Part of my point in the OP is that relying on pitching is now a shady proposition. For whatever reasons, they are not available when you need them.
So just take the hazard out of play. Build the team around scoring runs and any quality pitching you get count it a bonus feature.
