He likes every kind of gumbo but his favorite is okra gumbo with shrimp in it and with two scoops of potato salad in his gumbo.

Now that we got that squared away do yall approve of it?

Potato salad in gumbo was a new thing to me.

I love Okra in seafood gumbo.

I dont Think I’d put it in a chicken/turkey/duck gumbo.

Perhaps I’m biased as I find pretty much all types of potato salad deplorable. The idea of adding it to gumbo just sounds like sacrilege.

Everyone tastes is different. But we make potato salad thick not like the runny Walmart stuff.

What does this even mean?

Are you trying to imply okra gumbo is a Shreveport thing? Because that would be a very dumb thing to say.

That's BS.

The potato salad in Gumbo is a Southeast LA thing originally (I loved it from the moment I tried it, though). My wife is from Arnaudville and I am from the Lafayette/Scott area. We both grew up in very Cajun families, Grandparents who spoke mostly or all french, parents who spoke both (my mom started school only speaking French).

Neither of us had ever had potato salad in gumbo until we were adults and saw one of my coworkers from the Houma area doing that.

Never heard of putting a sweet potato in it, I don't find that appealing and I love sweet potatoes.

But I do highly recommend the tater salad in the gumbo.

Chicken, sausage gumbo with okra over potato salad or mashed potato is so damn good... had never heard of it until a work lunch in moss bluff one day many years ago. Changed my life.
