Found one of the NCAA rule books from 2022:

quote:

Consideration for hosting shall be given to the better seed, including the 16 national seeds, if a suitable hosting proposal has been received (i.e., meets financial guarantee and quality of facility criteria). If the better seed has not submitted a proposal, the lower-seeded team will host if its proposal is acceptable.

quote:

• If the super regional match-up is between equally seeded teams, the committee shall review the hosting proposals according to the site selection criteria (i.e., quality and availability of facility, revenue potential and other available accommodations) to determine the host. If only one team has submitted a hosting proposal, that team shall host if the hosting proposal is acceptable.

Regarding off site locations:

quote:

Super regional competition shall take place at on-campus or approved alternate sites.

Right. So better seed always hosts (assuming they submitted a bid that qualifies).

Can you submit a bid to host somewhere other than your field? Like if you have a minor league park close by, can you submit to host it there?

So a minor league team/organization is going to rearrange their schedule so that a local college team can host a three game series at their facility?

Yep, appears that way. I must have been thinking of when they are the same seeds.

no, but due to scheduling being posted well in advance, the hosting team would know whether or not the facility was available that weekend.

Tulane hosted LSU at Zephyr Field in 2001.

the Zephyr's didn't rearrange their schedule.
but Tulane knew in advance the facility was available that weekend and worked out the deal to be able to use it.

That’s only if the two teams paired for the super is the SAME seed. If one team is a higher seed they automatically get to host the super regional.

What are you not comprehending?

Why WOULDNT you submit a bid to host a regional and super regional, even if you are a 3/4 seed?

Schools like Long Island have enough bleachers to sit 50 total fans

I thought for sure this has happened in the past? Where a school couldn’t host at their field but they used another field close by?

And of course, they wouldn’t rearrange if they had games there but that schedule is set and they may be somewhere else that weekend.

If it’s 1 v 1 I think it goes to higher national seed or something like that. But 2v2, 3v3, 4v4 do go to submitted bids from what I can tell.

But what if they get paired with another 4 with equally small accommodations? One of them has to host, right?

Or does ncaa step in and find an alternate venue?

Guess we’ll find out the first time a super regional is 4 vs. 4

I don't know if that's ever happened, and I can't find anything in the rule book that covers that.

like I said, most of those schools can't back the financial guarantee part.
and a lot of those 4 seeds don't have adequate facilities.

Doesn't even have to be a 4 vs 4 situation. Just a school with small accommodations in position to host. Based on names, there appears to have been a handful of 2 seeds that would most likely have smaller accommodations; jumping out at me as 2 seeds that I would be surprised if they had decent setups are Indiana St, UNCW, San Diego.

But like you said we'll find out if it ever happens.

Indiana St,

Already hosted a regional so they should be able to

If UCSB could host a regional at home, I’d say a lot of Division I probably could
