People will heckle you over this thread but I 100% agree with you on all counts. These are my complaints too and I love JJ but he needs to do a better job of playing the odds. There’s working a pitcher then there’s letting every hittable ball go straight past you because the count is 0-0. This is a good post and I think anyone who’s watched every game can see the things you’re talking about

I fail to comprehend on where the coach is from affecting how the team plays.
Skip Bertman was born in Detroit and came to us from Miami.
Mainieri was born in West Virginia and came to us from Norte Dame. None of that is LSU culture. Winning coaching is winning. I’m sick of people talking about whether a coach is a cultural fit for our school or not. And if we had won 2 or 3 of the games we lost so far this season no one would be talking about where the coach is from. No one gives a shite.

West coast(woke) approach
Not sure what woke approach is in baseball, but seems a sprinkling of WCO bunting would keep infields honest.

Recruit ball players from Louisiana that care about the state and the university. There’s plenty of talent within the state to win with.
Taylor Young (West Monroe) is hitting .397 at La Tech
Peyton Stovall (Haughton) sitting at .328 for Arkansas as a freshman.

The Bertman years were built on guys from Louisiana.

Exactly. We all know we need guys from Mamou like Skip Bertman so the coaches can relate to the local players.

Floyd throwing 93/94 and can't throw a breaking ball for a strike. That's Coaching

Errors all over the field on routine plays. That's coaching

Taking first pitch strikes and starting the at bat behind in the count… That's coaching

Continuously running Cooper out there who cannot compete at this level… That's coaching

Lack of fundamentals behind the plate… That's coaching

The pitcher getting nailed in the chest on a first third situation… That's Coaching

SS crossing the centerfield line over 2nd base and taking a cut instead of the 2nd baseman that delayed the relay to the 1st baseman for a dbl play.
That's on coaching

We could go on and on and on

Some of you people here think there is no coaching at the college level first year or not? That these kids just roll out of bed every day and they are either good or they are not?

Prime example, Kim Mulkey with women's basketball. Now she brought in a couple good players but the turnaround has been unbelievable
Because of...
COACHING

I'm done for the day. Have a good one and go tigers! BTW, the trolls here have serious derangement from me using the word woke. Lol.

I agree with some of your points, but the main issue on this team is talent on the pitching staff and, to a lesser degree, defense.

Defense you can absolutely put blame on this coaching staff. Multiple guys have regressed defensively from last year. Also Johnson knew Berry was a defensive liability, that’s why he was a DH last year at Arizona, but Johnson continually forces him into the field.

As far as pitching goes, you can argue that the coaching staff has made questionable decisions that don’t maximize the talent on the pitching staff.

If anything, this team is playing anti west coast ball.
Bunting guys over. Manufacturing runs. SOLID DEFENSE. These are staples of west coast baseball. And we don’t do any of that well.

In reply to your post that I just skimmed through. Changes happen with new coaches. This isn’t Paul’s team this is Jays team with Paul’s players. He has every right to change what ever he wants. As far as Crews he has played outstanding in Center leave him there. Gio can play Rt and run down foul balls like he did the other night. The problem is not the outfield it’s the infield. We have no shortstop. Thompson is inconsistent and has been since walking on campus. We have no true 2nd baseman or third baseman. We have hitters playing defense. There’s two positions I am willing to sacrifice offense for better defense. That is catcher and short. Berry needs to DH there’s no doubt about that. Pitching is an entire different beast. We have minimal to few starting SEC pitching. Move either Dutton or Taylor to Sat night let them learn and struggle for next season. Maybe they will surprise and actually work. It’s better than Floyd. Floyd can go in the pen until he learns and can throw secondary pitches. Other than errors the starting pitching is our downfall.
