Isn't being talked about enough. If there's a player you want to blame the loss on, it is CJ Jimcoily. Kid was absolutely exploited several times to end the 2H en route to an inexcusable touchdown. Then again missing his ONLY assignment on the Chambliss touchdown which is to... contain Chambliss.

It is no where near on him entirely. Kid was thrown to the wolves against the best QB in the country and baker did him no favors by making him play soft coverage. Not to mention that he’s nearly 230lbs. He’s really linebacker

I frankly don't care how he is built. Our coaches put him into the spot because they believed he could fill in the spot. Total lapse in coverage reading the QB too long on the 2Q touchdown. Total loss of assignment on the 4Q touchdown

So you admit the coaches put him in a position to fail… that type of coverage is dog shite in that spot. You are trying to hold them to a field goal and gave them easy passing lanes vertically into the endzone for that caliber of qb

A position to fail implies a player is incapable of doing what he is being asked to do. The kid simply has to understand the situation; soft coverage, no timeouts, 3 man rush.

That one was actually a bad play because two defenders had Chambliss bottled up outside of the pocket & the only way he was going to do anything there was with the pass. Vacating that zone allowed for that completion.

Exactly. So Blake baker was so scared Chambliss was going to somehow run for a 21 yard TD on that play that he left his safety who was never seen meaningful snaps against one of the best WRs in the country 1 on 1. He missed his assignment but he should have never have been in that position in the first place. It’s on baker in that spot.

Which is another detriment of this defense... overpursuit. Trinidad is applauded for this play, rightfully so. But what is a senior like Whit Weeks doing here?

I guess we can agree that it's a little bit of both. I was encouraged by how Jhase Thomas played, but a thin DB room gets thinner.

That was not the intention of that coverage & defensive call. It was meant to force Chambliss to check it down & have defenders swarm to make the tackle underneath.
The threat of Chambliss froze Jimcoily just enough to create a small throwing window to complete that pass. Most college QBs don't have the balls nor the accuracy to even attempt that throw. That's a throw you seen made on Sundays & not Saturdays.

This whole thread can be summed up in one long sentence. Chambliss is a 6 year senior and a great QB who was recruited and developed by Lane and Weiss and Leavitt is not that and maybe no one else is that.

This. Chambliss purposely threaten to run on that TD pass before half knowing it would cause the safety pause for a second giving him the small window to make that throw.
Chambliss was also looked off defenders like a veteran NFL QB several times to get WRs open. People have to remember that he's being coached by a former NFL QB coach in Joe Judge.

This is the biggest worry going forward. Gonna need some young guys to step up. You mentioned Jhase Thomas & he is one of them who will have to get up to speed quickly.
