I hate hyperbole, but I don't think anything said in this thread thus far describing Jackson is hyperbole. Simply put, he's the best basketball player I've ever seen in person.

Go watch the Florida highlights from his freshman year. Bill Raftery's reaction that night was the same as so many LSU fans. When he was on, he was literally unguardable

Love all the input, exactly what I was asking for.

I was talking with a few guys about an All Time Tiger Team, and I asked without much thought that you gotta start with Shaq, right? Almost everybody in the room said CJ comes first. Once I saw his resume, I was shocked, so I had to ask.

You're an arse just like I thought. Maravich was not the shooter Jackson was. If you think that then you're stupid as you sound. And frick you!

Poor little boy.

Mommy's going to take away your computer time since you're misbehaving.

Now get your jammies on, brush your teeth and get ready for bed.

Well, building a team is a bit harder. sure, you could drop the Top 5 players there, but that might not make the best team, you know?

Now...I happen to think that not only was CJ a dynamic scorer, he was more than capable as a point...though not the best defender. On a team with Pistol on the perimeter and Shaq in the paint, while having another scorer is awesome it's hard to take the ball out of those guys' hands.

My All LSU Team though would look something like:

CJ
Pistol
John Williams
Rudy Macklin
Shaq

And the second 5 would be strong as well...

You hear talk about once-a-generation players.

Well, Chris was a once-a-MULTI-generation player. Most exciting and game-changing player I've ever seen play the college game and will probably ever see play the college game.

And I say all that without the use of hyperbole whatsoever.

Hey man, forgive me for having to paddle the kindergartener in this thread, but to give you a little more historical perspective, the late 80's-early 90's were the beginning of players leaving early in droves.

We were licking our chops around 91-92 with the thought of 3 more years of CJ and four years of Shaq, Roberts, etc., but of course they started leaving early/flunking out, etc.

But Dale seemed to be more comfortable with an underdog team than he did with a loaded roster.

Best I've ever seen, but I never saw Maravich.

Crossover shot was phenomenal, like everyone else says. I can't tell you how many times the game was close at the end. Time running out, tied, or LSU down a basket. Timeout called, and everyone in the entire place new Chris Jackson would get the ball. Opposing team would draw up scheme to stop. Ball would come into Jackson off of a pick, 2 people run to him, in his face, crossover, fall away, and make it. They couldn't stop it. It was funny.

I do remember there was a time, with his Tourrette's, where his face would puff up, and he seemed a step off, and they said it was his medication. I seem to remember him saying he got off the meds during the season because he didn't like what it did to him, but not sure if that's completely accurate.

I recall this as well. His meds, which were pretty brutal at the time, caused him to gain weight and lose a step.

Unbelievable scorer. One of the most fluid and smoothest players I've ever seen.

He could put the ball in the net and make it look easy against anybody.

frick Dale Brown for giving him Malcolm X

Actually, I think whoever compared him to Tyrann Mathieu was spot on. He didn't fit the prototypical NBA player. They were moving towards the taller point guard, less perimeter shooting. But the guy just made things happen like no one else. He could take over any game. And he was money with the game on the line. Absolute money.

He was the best shooter that I've ever seen. In my opinion, what Steph Curry is doing now, Abdul Rauf would've been doing in the 90s if he wasn't black-balled from the NBA.

You're right, I love the hypothetical construction of an all time Tiger TEAM, but I was especially curious about CJ individually.

What I wanted to know is exactly what you guys have been saying.

What was this dude was like to watch? An all timer? Comparable to anybody? Memories?

Love Tiger history from Tiger fans, thanks a lot

He was who I wanted to be honestly, not MJ. CJ and KJ Kevin Johnson. I can also rock some mid-late 90s allan houston.

Mahmoud was so smooth. Like watching a gazelle prance through a barren tundra, somehow feasting on an abundance of nothing. He was always so composed.

Totally agree. Grew up on MS Coast and saw him once as a high-school player, then at LSU. That move was his signature shot. Freakin' awesome!

Chris Jackson is one of two LSU athletes I've ever seen in any sport who was capable of completely taking over and dominating any game he was in.

The other one is Tyrann Mathieu.

Some players are shooters and some are scorers. He was a scorer. He could drill long jumpers, medium jumpers, or drive on a 7 footer and manage to get a twisting shot up and in. Best I ever saw come through the PMAC.

I didn't see Pistol Pete, but I heard he was almost as good as Pistol Pete was. I remember watching and listening to his games when he was a freshman. Truly incredible.
