Was really nervous about Hawthorne retiring. Loved sittin in the woods listening to him. I am no longer nervous. First impression of this guy was great.

He's talking about the bluegrass miracle, a MUCH bigger college sports moment
Yeah I know that's what he was talking about. But it was not the biggest call of Hawthorne's career. Of course college football is MUCH bigger than college baseball. But putting Hawthorne's LSU career in a vacuum, there is NO call as big as the Morris homer. Not even CLOSE!!! The Bluegrass Miracle was a miraculous win over fricking Kentucky in a season in which we didn't even win the SEC west. Morris' homer came in the heyday of LSU baseball, which I'm sure you realize is a pretty big boy in college baseball, on the absolute biggest stage in the sport, and in the most pressure packed situation there could possibly be, for a NATIONAL TITLE!!! Much bigger moment than the Bluegrass Miracle. And I guarantee you Jim would say the same thing himself. He's made comments before in fact about it being the biggest moment of his playcalling career.
And like most LSU fans, of course football is far and away king in my world. Tiger baseball isn't even my second favorite. That would be basketball. It's football and then basketball and baseball a DISTANT second and third. But... The Morris homerun was bigger.

No he didn't. He clearly called it a 2-run home run.

Hawthorne's call of Anthony Wilson's buzzer beater against Memphis State in the 1986 NCAA Tourney was pretty awesome too ..

Guy has a good radio voice.
Catch phrases don't really matter much to me when it comes to radio guys. I just like that "radio guy" sound the good ones have. And, he seems to have it.

Do you really think that the guy who will be paid to call play-by-play for the big three sports isn't capable of being as big a fan as you because he wasn't born into it?
Do you think you could pay someone to love LSU as much as someone who does it for free?
if there was no Louisiana/LSU guy who could do it fine, but i would have preferred someone who was local.

Don't like it at all, and for the life of me can't understand the negativity towards Lyn Rollins. He was by far the best choice - knowledgable about LSU and an entertaining announcer. I know I'm biased being from cenla and having talked to him several times, but I just think he was the man for the job.

Never thought Lynn Rollins fanboys existed.

I don't agree with the nay-sayers- but I understand it, because it happens every time there's a regime change at this position. For some of you, JH is the only VOTT there's every been- because he's been there all your lives. But I do remember there were plenty of folks saying 'this new guy will NEVER replace John Ferguson' as the voice of LSU Football after the 1983 season/debacle.
They were correct- because Jim Hawthorne never tried to. He brought his own unique style to the position- and I'd say it worked out very well.
I'm happy with the choice, and am looking forward to him coming in next baseball season. I think he'll do a great job for us.

I have no knowledge of the situation....like most of the Rant in every situation that comes up on here. But put yourself in Hanagriff's shoes for a moment:
You have worked as the #2 guy on baseball for a decade or so. It looked like you were going to inherit the #1 chair when Hawthorne retired until LSU decided to go with one guy for all 3 sports instead of splitting it up. Now, you are not getting the #1 chair AND the guy who IS getting it has never called an LSU baseball game in his life. How would this make you feel?
Again, I am just speculating and throwing shite out there, Rant-style, but if it were me, I would have the red-arse and tell LSU to go frick themselves. I just think if it were me, I would have a hard time working with the new guy in this scenario.
I hope Hanagriff stays. He has good knowledge of the team and I really think he could help the new guy transition into the job...but I could also understand if he gave LSU a big ole

Redden takes the jumper...get in, get in, get in, NOOO! Rebound is loose...it's....LSU has it, and a shot by Wilson is GOOD! GOOD! It's GOOD and the Tigers win!!
