China Embracing Electric Trucks
If true, 21$ instead of 101$ is too substantial to ignore. I know Tesla is starting to crank out electric big rigs

Diesel consumption in China will drop more than 10% this year

The difference between running an e-truck in China and a traditional rig in the U.S. are even more stark. A 200-kilometer (124 miles) journey for a diesel truck in the U.S. would cost about $101, compared with just $21 for a similar-sized vehicle in China charged during off-peak hours.

China really has it figured out. I hear they don’t have to pay taxes and the working folks get beer stamps
I wish diversity was legal there so a white boy could move there but president xi realizes that diversity isn’t a strength unlike Delhi Donald

China is doing everything they can to secure their energy supply chain. Currently we, meaning ing the US, secures it for them. Meaning you cam only poke the bear so hard

& the extra $80/trip is going to the data centers

No clue where those numbers were generated. I work in the trucking industry and it takes 6 hours for loved to change a set of batteries on a standard rig. Anything more electrical and your towed to the shop. It can take trucks up to an hour to just get fuel at a standard stop now. Where are all these electric truck mechanics being trained? Is every truck stop going to have nuclear power generation system? Sharif Muhammad don’t understand how to use toilet paper or not shite on the fuel island. Yet he’s expected to be able to get keep a electric truck running?

Unless we want to take into account the production of that vehicle vs a standard ICE car/truck.
I think heavy machinery still uses diesel?

Producing an electric vehicle generates about 50% to 80% more carbon emissions up front than building a standard gas-powered car, primarily due to the energy-intensive process of mining and manufacturing lithium-ion batteries

China's problems aren't going to be electric vehicles in the near future.

And the cost will likely go down.
They have added the equivalent of Germany's entire powergrid to their generation capabilities every year for several years now, and the share of renewables of total power generation continues to climb.

This smells like bullshite.

Are they going to build more collapsing dams?

They definitely have their place.

so not long-haul trucking....

It mostly is.

As Qu Shaolong pulls his electric truck into one of the many charging stations that dot the Chinese coal hub of Yulin, the latest phase in the country’s energy transition is playing out in real time.
There's no transitioning. China is burning more and more coal. Whatever diesel being saved by converting short-haul and terminal trucks is just getting poured into mining vehicles (or diverted into thevblack market given the corruption in China). Their touted EV technologies are mostly just propaganda parroted by the ignorant.

We should have some envy for China. They just get shite done, no matter what it takes. They don't have concern for breaks, workers' feelings, unions, displacing a homeless shelter, whatever. They just get shite done when they want it done.
I'm not saying we should be China, but maybe we should be a little more pragmatic in our approach to just about everything.

Nuclear to power manufacturing.
But folks are against that too.
