Murray had 5mins in the pocket to find an open WR.
The DL and LB didn't touch a RB until he was already 5yds past the LOS.
The DBs looked confused and there were open WRs all over.

I'm surprised that when communication isn't there, that everything falls apart.
You would think they would have base calls from formations the offense shows. What the hell are they doing in the film room?
I will never understand staying in a cover 2 when the offense comes out in a 31 set. You are doomed to fail.
You can tell in his voice, that Gordy Rush, wanted to say that Wednesday night. For obvious reasons, he didn't.

That was the hardest part to watch. I was yearning for a cover 1 man with a blitzer thrown in when appropriate. The zones are what made them look so foolish. Getting beat manned up just happens.
In the end, maybe a total flop performance should speed up progress and better prep us for our West foes.

On last GA touchdown they were in 22 set. TE ( #2 ) receiver ran passed Barrow, and Loston was in no mans land. He couldn't leave first threat in his 1/2. The RB went in to the flats, but Alexander was there. I know the safeties have been ridiculed, but Mills doesn't need to peel off his man without a threat to his flats. Again two go routes beat a Cover 2. Safety screwed. Mills, needs to know better.

finally looked at this play again. not sure what was going on the LSU end of things, except for the fact that Murray held Loston toward the middle of the field with his eyes and the TE getting a free release up the seam. oh yeah and....

Honesty, while fatigue with the lack of depth people believe we have at DL is potentially an issue, LSU was getting blown off the ball from the opening kick before the guys had a chance to get tired.
There is a fundamental issue on this team that people will continue to deflect. When your LBers refuse to play aggressively, this is the result. Barrow and Welter are out of position a ton and teams have keyed on that. They don't have to worry about blocking them initially and can play 5 and even 6 players to block 4 lineman. The outside runs kill LSU because our LBer play has been horrid and Kwon, while a great talent, can't cover at all.
Further, the defense at times both at the LBers and the DBs look completely lost. This reminds me a ton of the Saints defense last year. When they switched to a zone coverage scheme, players looked horrible. When they played man this season it has drastically helped. Clearly a pass rush helps, but it isn't just about the players. The scheme is old and worn out and teams have figured it out. Chavis has to change things up.
These players just aren't good at zone. Zone coverage is better for less athletic DBs, LSU has great athletes in the defensive backfield and they play on instinct (which Cooper stressed with them), while making them think too much in a zone coupled with issues in pass rush/pressure will only make it worse.

The D line was mauled and that had nothing to do with communication. The DE were nowhere to be found. That's not communication. The LB were ineffective and bullied. That's not communication.

Our cbs handing off receivers to nobody is what made them look so bad. It eally isn't that hard to keep track of whats going on MOST of the time but Geo made them look bad at least once every possession.
Man coverage is just more simple for the cbs and might have helped with the brain farts. Murray played them like violins.

I hate to agree with the gump, but he is right. This is not an LSU defense because we lost 8 starters last year. I hope the BIG CHIEF will get it fixed quick!
