Well what's he going to do? I just don't understand the thought process. It is one year of getting in shape and focusing on career with potentially millions to be made. Oh well.

He could get serious and bust his arse and absolutely improve his NFL prospects.

He could also hire trainers, work out like a fiend and accomplish the same thing. He only has more eligibility because of the the covid exception from last year anyway

Getting on shape is only part. He needs to show what he can do on the field. But whatever, you seem like the type who thinks they know it all. Have a good one.

Do any of these guys sit down with someone who can objectively talk to them about their possible draft grades; or are they just talking to friends?

Each school can request up to 5 evaluations for underclassmen, from the NFL College Advisory Committee each year. The CAC rates the players as either:
- Potential to be drafted as high as the first round.
- Potential to be drafted as high as the second round.
- Potential to be drafted as high as the third round, but recommend staying in school.
- Recommend staying in school.

I assume the specific players who receive evaluations are based on conversations between the head coach and the draft-eligible players.

One thing that’s interesting - as I noted above, the CAC normally only allows 5 evaluations per school. They do offer case-by-case exceptions, which have to be approved by the committee. But 5 is the normal limit and the 2021-2022 documentation I’ve found still says 5. They don’t normally offer evaluations for “seniors or redshirt seniors.”

It’s interesting because this year you should theoretically have a shitload of draft-eligible players with remaining eligibility, because of the extra COVID year. All of the players who would normally be classified as “seniors” have another year. Hines falls into that bucket. So he may or may not have actually received an evaluation.

Anyhow, normally juniors who are considering leaving would request an evaluation and the coaching staff would review and discuss it with them. The combination of the COVID eligibility mess and the new staff may have changed things a bit for Hines this year.

There have been a few who are making jumps who could really help their draft stock by sticking around.

There are a few, sure. But consider that as of now, the only juniors who have declared are Stingley, Flott, TDP, and Cade York. I think it’s pretty clear that Flott could probably benefit from an extra year. TDP may or may not benefit - depends on where he would fall on the depth chart and how the short shelf life for RB’s affects his draft stock. York’s draft position will depend more on team needs than anything, so whether he’s better off leaving this year or next year is kind of a crapshoot.

The other guys with remaining eligibility who have declared (Clark, Ingram, Atkins, and Hines) are all seniors. None of them would have eligibility if not for the COVID year. Clark, Ingram, and Atkins have all graduated. I don’t know that anyone should really expect these guys to come back just because they can. But that’s just my opinion.

Another bad decision. The offensive line this year was absolutely awful. Not one person on the offensive line could grade out better than a late round choice to FA. Amazing that some of these guys have that high of an opinion of themselves.

Regardless of his draft potential, he was a Tiger and I wish him nothing but success in the NFL or wherever life takes him.

Of course they do. Hines is someone i don't fault for going pro.
