Had Smith achieved anything near what Jamarr Chase achieved last year, he wouldn't have played this season.

In two years, Ja'Marr Chase reached the pinnacle of his position in his sport, earning unanimous All-American honors, winning the Biletnikoff Award and helping lead LSU to an undefeated national championship season. Why should he keep playing for free when NFL teams will pay him for his future services?

Chase made a business decision in the face of uncertain circumstances because he had nothing left to prove and everything to lose if he was injured.

Instead of being ungrateful fans after all Chase has accomplished for LSU, why can't you appreciate his greatness?

I am sorry I didn’t realize when LSU offered him a scholarship it was only to play through his sophomore year and then he was entitled to leave early forgive us......nope it’s quitting

He quit? what a bunch of morons. The best player on a factory for producing NFL players decides he doesn't want to risk injury or worse during a pandemic? He laid it all out on the field during normal times and would have again all things equal. He's no quitter - he's a smart businessman and best of luck to him.

To be fair.... by definition and policy that the NCAA and CFB created... he opted out.

Smith left Louisiana because he didn’t want to be a part of LSU. Chase didn’t. Take your Bama support else where

What part do you not understand he was supposed to come to LSU for four years possibly three is junior year he played through his sophomore year I’d say he’s a year short.... he quit

Oh I’m sorry I guess they awarded him that so-called coveted number 7 jersey at LSU as it going away prize before the season started now. he was all planning on playing

I don’t think he was planning on quitting. I think he was in academic troubles that may have prevented him from being eligible. This opting out was a way of “saving face”. He was great while he was here and I wish him well. At least he didn’t chose Bama!

An understandable human reaction. However, he hurt the team. NFL GMs are in charge of building and protecting their TEAM. So any GM worth his salt is going to have to take that into consideration when picking players. Given Smith’s incredible ability at the position, it’s more than understandable to take him before Chase based on his commitment to his team.

What’s the difference between quitting as a sophomore or quitting as a junior?

Because you can withhold pay when they don’t play in the NFL. Why do people forget what makes professional sports professional?

That didn’t stop Antonio Brown from sitting out his money year. Why would you want to risk signing that you may not even be able to play in year 5 of a 4 year contract?

Antonio Brown was still worth whatever head he caused at the end.
