I don't believe Cecil ever raped anyone. He never caused physical harm to anyone. A little mental harm maybe but 13 years for breaking into houses and watching women sleep is at least enough punishment.

I don't know that people feel for him, just that they are pointing out the inequities in sentencing. There are child molesters and murderers who spend 10 years in jail, and this guy is doing 13+ for nonviolent offenses.

Yes, but he was given probation in lieu of 5 yrs prison time. Months later he broke that probation. It's not like this is something they are just now springing on him.
"We'll let you go but you need to be a good boy or you will go to prison for 5 yrs."
"Ok, I'll be a good boy."
Months later he violates that deal. Goes to prison in Fla. Is released.
"Cecil, remember the deal we made you? Well, you broke it and it's time to pay the price."

Yeah, all those people who served less time probably didn't keep breaking the law and the rules of incarceration and probation after their convictions.
Remember, the guy committed TWO DIFFERENT B&E's with the chance to spend ZERO jail time -- every minute he has served has been the result of at least a third (or later) violation of law, rules or parole.

Cecil has paid his debt to society. Barring his commission of another crime, they need to just leave him alone.

Why is this so hard for some to get? The dude broke his Louisiana probation and it's the duty of Louisiana court system to see that his breaking the probation is addressed.
Louisiana will probably tack on two to three more years of probation.
The question to ask Louisiana is how does a guy break into two homes in the middle of the night, fondle two women, and only get probation?
All those questioning the punishment probably never woke in the middle of the night to a thug in your bedroom feeling you up.

Sort of a Monday morning quarterback thing, but looking back it would have done him so much better had La. put him in jail for 5 yrs way back when. He wouldn't have been in Fl. to commit that crime and hopefully would have learned his lesson.

He knew someone was going to be in those homes sleeping. That makes him a dangerous fricking dude and dangerous fricking dudes need to experience hard time and not probation.

granted it's a different jurisdiction and state than where I'm employed, I'm amazed at how long his sentence was to begin with. While there are some people in here that are confusing B&E (criminal trespassing, a misdemeanor) with what he was charged with, burglary (a felony), I'm amazed at how many years he actually served. I work out of Dekalb County Georgia (outside Atlanta), and I've seen plenty of repeat felons be sentenced to far less time than Collins. He also seems to be getting a little unfortunate in the fact that he violated his probation in a different jurisdiction. Had this all happened in the same state, most judges would likely have him serving his time with concurrent sentences. Hopefully, for Collins' sake, his judge in Louisiana will just give him credit for time served and let him be on his way. As others have said, there are murderers, drug traffickers, and child molesters, who are sentenced to serve less time than Collins already has. For instance, I saw a man just last week sentenced to 10 years to serve 1 in prison for raping his 14 year old step daughter. Even though Collins is a criminal who deserved to serve serious time, what he got just doesn't seem consistent with what most people get for crimes as serious or more serious than the crimes he committed.
Additionally, he was sentenced in Florida based on his crimes in Louisiana. He wouldn't have served more than a year or two in Florida if he was a first time offender. If Louisiana courts do not take that into consideration, it's pretty ridiculous

I agree. Give the guy probation in La. and if he fricks up once more, lock him up and toss away the key.
Otherwise, the dude's done his time and deserves a shot and getting his life back in order at this point.

very true; however, had he committed his final offense in Louisiana, he would have likely been sentenced to serve the rest of that five years in prison and time for the new offense, and in all likelihood the two sentences would run concurrently. However, he was sentenced in Florida to a much harsher sentence BECAUSE OF his crimes in Louisiana. To make him serve 5 more years in Louisiana would be an injustice. Yes he is a criminal, but he did not commit a crime that warrants him serving half of his adult life in jail. That is not justice.
