Disagree...what you're saying there is basically making the argument that USC and UGA should have been in the title game because at that point in time, they were no doubt playing the best ball. The objective of the BCS is to determine who the best two teams are over the course of the season. I would argue that on Dec 1, 2007 LSU at that point in time was NOT one of the best two teams in the country. But they damn sure were over the course of the season and thus deserved to be in the title game per BCS methodology.

I agree 100%.

i almost touched on that in my first post bc i knew that was guna be the reply.
georgia couldnt get in bc they didnt win the sec. BUT IF THEY WOULD HAVE WON THE SEC, they would have been in the national championsip! not for any other reason other than they were the sec champs.
now do u atleast semi agree?

Does it hurt your feelings to admit it? Any idiot can see our Out of Conference schedule sucks.
Just to show you how rediculous the OOC grade is, if we played Florida, Georgia and Auburn; but were in the Big East, we would have an AAAAA++++++ OOC schedule.

Not true...see OU 2003 and NU 2001. Winning your conference is not a criteria for getting into the title game, never was and is not now.

Obviously winning the SEC is a major step in getting to the title game. But it's not a lead pipe cinch. We, as well as Fla last year needed miracles to happen to get in. Auburn did everything it could do and did not get in.

Good discussion, and I wasnt trying to "talk smack" but pointing out that one moron who claimed the schedule averaged out to an A...
Nice schedule breakdown buckeye fan 19 - pretty spot on I think.
Also, to the person who said "Penn St. wont be in the top 25 when OSU plays them" here's their schedule: LINK they have a shot at being 7-1/6-2 when they come into the Shoe for a night game
ETA: Fixed their potential record

tigerfan1, I agree on your outlook. I love OSU but these other programs have got to get their act together. I've often sat down with pencil and paper and said I would like to kick out so-and-so and bring in so-and-so.
As far as our OOC schedule goes, I think we need to let the MAC help themselves and start scheduling a Big East/ACC opponent every year in addition to a BIG game.

obi - u do make a lot of very good points.
one thing that i will again point up is that we exchanged UK for UGA in our CONFERENCE schedule this year. if you figure tulane = tulane, mtsu = north texas, and troy = la tech, when you look at our overall schedule last year compared to this year we play uga + appy state instead of kentucky + va tech.
certainly some drop off there, but when you consider that we switch our road slate.....florida 08 > bama 07, auburn > kentucky, usc > miss state, arkansas > ole miss...
i'd say our overall schedule this year is close to what it was last year.
forgive me if i am misquoting, but you also said something about what happened last year not mattering, and that's not completely true.
the reason that USC and Oklahoma were in the 2004 championship game had a lot to do with both the leftover perception that USC 'shoulda' gone the year before, and the fact that those teams started the preseason ranked in the top five whereas auburn started at the low end of the top 25.
in 2003, the fact that we started out lower in the top 25 hurt us in comparison to usc and oklahoma.
the reason that we needed a 'miracle' to get in was, without the pitt game, wvu would have had only one loss.
if we had beaten arkansas, we would have been in no questions asked cause we would have only had one loss. once we had two losses, we would not have been able to jump a one-loss conference champion. i mean, heck, ohio state really didn't deserve to be in the game last year over oklahoma, but they only lost once.

college football is first and foremost...about entertainment.
i may not do the best job of explaining this, but here goes.....
when i go pay $7.50 to see a movie at the theater, i am hoping to see a good story, that is well directed and acted, and keeps my attention for two hours. while there are some actors and such that i like, and i may find things enjoyable about the film or quote lines from it, i do not have any specific emotional attachment to the actors, directors, producers, etc or attach any ownership to the film.
if the film "sucks", it doesn't ruin my day or week other than the two hours of my life that i won't get back...like when i saw that piece of crap dark knight flick.
on the other hand, i am a fan and supporter of LSU. it's my team. it's a part of my life. i gain my enjoyment not in 'admiration' of the artistic merit of play, but in seeing LSU compete and hopefully win. each game is 1:12 of a regular season with the ultimate goal to win as many games as possible and hopefully be in a position to play of the national title at the end of the year.
given the current landscape of college football today and the strength of our conference, we cannot play more than one 'top notch' OOC game per year. and this year, it really doesn't behoove us to play even one.
another example is watching the super bowl.
i really didn't have strong feelings for either team last year, but watched that game to be 'entertained' and was by an exciting, close game.
yet had the game been a 40-0 blowout, unless my team won i would have said the game sucked.
on the other hand, LSU beating ohio state was a million times better than the super bowl, despite the fact the outcome was decided much earlier.
i don't want to say that every person who wishes we played a better OOC schedule or complains about ticket prices is someone not a true fan/supporter...and there is the valid arguement that a better OOC can help us and a terrible one can potentially hurt us....but i do believe that when it comes down to it, true fans care more about seeing LSU WIN than the "entertainment" value of a single game.
to the folks who are buying tickets to LSU games for 'drama and excitement' instead of 'wanting to see LSU win' then save some money and go see a movie.
oh, and one final point....while LSU does charge a slighly higher face value ticket price to SEC and other marquee games, look at the prices those tickets go for with scalpers and ebay....maybe instead of saying i am getting robbed by paying $50 for north texas, look at it is stickin' it to the man by paying ONLY $50 for georgia.
geaux tigers!

I grade CBS's coverage of LSU football an F-
Too many commercials stretch the game out way to long and break any momentum a team may get. 2:30 start time sucks, however they are seeing the light and moving games back later in the day and have added 2 night games a year. Announcers leave a lot to be desired, and often show bias.

Are you serious?
quote:
vs. Buffalo
Equals Tulane. Buffalo went 5-7 last year, Tulane went 4-8, but Tulane's conference is a little bit better than Buffalo's so they're equal.
quote:
vs. Nevada
Equals Troy. Nevada went 6-7 in the WAC last year (IMO, the toughest non-BCS conference), and made a bowl. Troy went 8-4 in the Sun Belt (prob the worst non-BCS conference), so they're about equal.
quote:
vs. Southeast Missouri State
Equals North Texas. Both teams absolutely sucked last year, SEMSU went 3-8 in D-1AA. NTU went 2-10 in the bad Sun Belt, and in the last game of the year, lost to FIU, ending their 23 game losing streak.
quote:
vs. Illinois (in St. Louis)
A BCS bowl team compared to a D-1AA team (yes, the best D-1AA team, but still a D-1AA team.) Who do you think's better?
I think that D+ (compared to the F) is definitely fair.
