The General never could figure that out

You're probably right, and it's irrational of me, but man, I really liked Wade. I guess it's kinda like a jilted lover syndrome or something. I'm sure McMahon will win me over in time.

Pretty much every team slotted ahead of us has all that, too.

I don't think there are 9 teams ahead of LSU with more talent in he SEC. But what you just said is what I hear every year from people who want to defend the rankings..."Everyone else has that, too". And then LSU blows by their predicted finish.

LSU's low preseason rankings every year are the product of basketball elitism. There is nothing quite like it in sports. You gotta earn your way into the cool kids club before anyone takes you seriously. That's why I typically just ignore all polls and commentary in college basketball.

You can make a strong argument this roster is stronger than last years especially if Miller is close to as advertised

True. But you also have a coaching staff and what will probably be (at least) two of your starters, Hill and KJ Williams, who haven't put up results at the power conf. level. Thus, it is reasonable to take a wait and see approach.

I wouldn't get too bent out of shape about the preseason predictions. You could probably take teams 6-12 and reasonably put them in any order

LSU was a tournament team 4/5 years Wade coached at LSU. And his first team won 8 league games after winning 2 the year before.

McMahon may be a better Xs and Os guy but I have my doubts that we’ll have the raw talent we had with Wade.

While I agree with the rest of your post we will have close to the same amount of raw talent this year as Wade did last year if not more.

In the SEC that ranked only behind Kentucky, Alabama, Arkansas and Auburn. I'm not saying LSU is going to compete for the SEC title. But if you checked out on the program following Wade's firing and the mass defection to the transfer portal you've missed out on the fact McMahon seems to have built a competitive roster. This isn't going to be John Brady's first few years following the end of the Brown era.

I was looking at the players again and putting together some nice rosters. It's always fun to think what a true freshman COULD turn into so I was thinking about the following 5 as a line up:

PG - Juice (6'0")
SG - Adam Miller (6,3")
SF - Tyrell Ward (6'6")
PF - Jalen Reed (6'10")
C - KJ (6'10")

It's probably too much to expect out of Ward and Reed to be starters but it's nice to think they could both be high single digit scorers and rebounders to complement Juice, Miller, and KJ.

We'd have a lot of depth with Wilkinson, Williams, Hayes, Hannibal, Fountain, Coleman, and maybe even Phillips as a big off the bench.

Lots of height on this team. Not sure how serviceable all the bigs are but excited to see what this team can do.

I've seen this take way more times than people should, and I find it even more ridiculous than the time before.

Just b/c Wade himself may have not coached the games in the tournament, it's the fact that his teams "qualified" for the tournament based on the games he did coach during every single one of those seasons.

If you want to argue their performance during the tournament games he didn't coach, then that is a different story. But the fact that he didn't coach in 2 of them does nothing to change the fact that he is the coach that got them TO the tournament.

Wade put together such a good team in 18/19 they went to the sweet 16 with Tony fricking Benford coaching.
