it's clickbait - ignore all of that nonsense.

Play the games, then we'll all know.

The denial about how deficient BK left this team on defense headed into year 3 is almost universal.

You're saying our defense will be worse than last year?

Correct. However, saying the defense will give up over 50 in 5+ games is absolutely fricking retarded and not ‘objective’

This is frankly an insane take, and shows just such a lack of knowledge of football.

I mean… can you imagine Sage Ryan trying to cover Zachariah Branch in the slot? Telling you now Blake baker will get far too aggressive trying to send pressure (Because we can’t get there with 4) and L.Riley is going to burn his arse.

This place will pull a Heaven's Gate if we are playing in the Musoc City Bowl at the end of this year.

Conversely, Nebraska could be so lucky.

What he said wasn’t objective by any measure of the word. Considering one of the worst defenses in the history of the football program didn’t give up anything close to 50+ points in 5+ games and that we know the coaching is objectively better across the board, what he said isn’t just not objective, but the polar opposite. It is both subjective and based on his emotions and feelings. He was called out because of his extreme exaggeration.

If you tell me the defense will be much worse than last year with many of the same experienced players, a few more talented young players, and coaches who will actually use guys like Perkins and Weeks to maximize thejr potential rather than hammer them into a system they don’t fit in, then I’m going to say you are stuck in your emotions because of how last season went.

I don’t see anyone here predicting this year’s defense being great, However, it’s perfectly reasonable to expect a solid improvement to maybe average (probably the ceiling) considering the track records of Baker and his staff and a player like Perkins, who has shown himself capable of taking over a game when turned loose. Expecting a rebound from the defense ranking in the 100s across the board to somewhere between 50 and 75 seems pretty objective.

We probably will get burned a few times. How would that be different than any game last year?

What will be different if we actually apply pressure and attack teams on defense this year? Not being ranked 103rd in the FBS in turnovers created, for one.

Do you want to know what can make a below average defense effective in winning football games? Takeaways and big plays. Think back to Auburn in 2010. That defense was average as frick outside of Nick Fairley, but he made a lot of huge sacks and tackles for loss and they rode that. They got enough stops to let Newton and their offense win games. But they took advantage of what that had by being aggressive, not sitting back on their heels.

We saw all last year what happens if you can’t hold up and play vanilla and passive in response. At least when you attack, you have the potential to grab a few stops or turnovers that you otherwise wouldn’t have been able to.

The intel/info I get as a casual, out of state fan is as bad a political BS. “The team is maturing, d line is coming on. DB’s are improving.”

“D line is a liability. DB’s are getting torched routinely. Nuss throws frequent picks.”

Who the hell knows?

Hyperbole much. LSU gave up 50-plus in exactly 1 game last season. They gave up 40-plus in 3 games.

So gave up 40+ in 4 games and 39 in another. Ohhh wow he said 50. Maybe a slight exaggeration but definitely not what you’re trying to make it out to be
