He has put himself into the exact same position that Jimbo did at A&M. Got everything he said he needed to succeed....so succeed!

Anything less than playoffs would be a bust.

No he hasn't.

Brian Kelly will be the coach at LSU until the end of his contract unless we see an Ed O type collapse. Anyone that thinks he will be gone this year or next is not realistic.

Our program was a dumpster fire in 2021. The cupboard of players was pretty bare, program discipline was gone, and we were dead last in the SEC West and 3rd worst team in the entire SEC and had a losing record. We will not sniff that level of shame and disappointment under Kelly.

Is the time-table delayed for the rebuild? Yes. You can't lose 80% of your first full draft class and be on schedule when your original plan was to build from high school recruiting. Couple that with NIL challenges, and the entire program and support system has had to adapt over the past couple years. This year's portal activity would suggest that it is moving in the right direction.

Let's see how it plays out and try to be hopeful that the strides we are making in the off-season will transfer to the field. At every other place Kelly has coached, it has. We are just too damn impatient as a fan base and we love to bitch about stuff, even if there's nothing to bitch about.

that is not the point

people have clamored for ages the contract was terrible and we will never have the buyout money.

nobody here has a fricking clue as to If we would use buyout money this soon or when. or what do we have available? Nobody has provided any receipts or proof. This buyout made les and O buyout look like romper room type shite.

We aren't paying $10 mil a year to not make a 12 team playoff in consecutive years.

Why even put this part in, as there is plenty to legitimately bitch about at this point.

Y’all can say what you want but CBK best chance to win a natty was in 2023, he should have left that defensive coordinator in Oxford after that embarrassing lost and I think the season would have turned out differently

The buyout (and subsequent cost of hiring another coach) is not an example of sunk cost fallacy

How is it not? Are yall (ETA maybe not you specifically) not making the argument that we have to stick with him because of the money we have invested in him?

That’s not checkmating himself, that’s doing his job.

The OP is trying to spin a negative light on the job that LSU has done in the portal. LSU has the #1 portal class right now and instead of trying to continue the positive momentum, we have a small, but loud, contingent of our fanbase that absolutely can't have that happen. Everything about LSU has to have something wrong and they have to create 20 threads about those things and then downvote the hell out of people who choose to look at a different perspective.

We, as LSU fans, love to bitch. It's fact. It's been that way for the 30 years I've been watching and following LSU. We bitched about the DiNardo hire. We bitched about the Saban hire. We bitched about all the personnel choices that ultimately led to championships, we bitched about the Miles hire, we bitched about the Ed O hire, and now we're bitching about Kelly. Hell, we bitched about the Jay Johnson hire. It's what some people love to do apparently.

I just don't understand how you operate life looking at everything through that type of lens. It's crazy to me.

I don't see it that way. I see it as saying BK is officially out of excuses for not doing what he was paid a metric frickton of money to do.

They can pay lots. The question is, will they?

Because while it is a contractual obligation, the remainder of his contract is not sunk, it still has to be paid. Sunk cost only refers to that which has already been spent (time, money, etc).

If you fire him you pay the remainder of the conract in a lump sum (money now is worth more than money later) and have to hire a new coach, almost surely at a higher salary. The cost of firing him is more than double the cost of keeping him over the next 7 years.

Why are you always so negative? Good grief. Every comment of yours is negative. Are you ever happy about anything?

How does making a thread that say "CBK has finally checkmated himself" help LSU win?

That's the part I don't understand. Talking shite about a coach doesn't fix the issue.

Dumb comment. You don’t ’checkmate’ yourself by making great moves, you checkmate your opponent.
Kelly
had a great class, why not just to enjoy the off-season. When It’s time to be critical, become a critic if necessary.

We just won 8 regular season games in a down SEC year, in year 3 of CBK's tenure. Is that not worthy of criticism?
