why bama?/ go to troy if he wants to play..
if he wants serious consideration from the NFL, then he made the right choice for himself. Good luck to him except when we play.

He's going to be very good for them. I would much rather see him as a Tiger

Let's see if Saban can win with Miles players...

Bama doesn't have LSU talent? Bwaha. I guess we didn't have better talent when we beat you in Baton Rouge either, right?
Bama is slim at CB, but to say we don't have comparable talent is laughable.

What if he would have "sat out" at LSU? IE, did not participate in any football stuff. Would he still have 2 years to play after this year or would they have to count this year as a scholarship year?
Petersen will be gone after next year. Hawkins after this year. Eugene after next year.
Seems like Jones would be heavily in the mix if "gave up" this year, but stayed a Tiger.

I thought he was going to Auburn?

I don't know why Miles would grant this.
It's really simple and it's called "class". It's not the NFL. If a kid doesn't think LSU is right for him for any reason, after making a good faith effort on his commitment, what good does it do to stick it to him?
The very fact that Phelon isn't blasting LSU at all speaks volumes... about himself and the LSU staff/experience.

I just read every post preceding yours and not one said Bama didn't have LSU talent. Your reading comprehension leaves a lot to be desired. Pretty lame attempt at flaming, using your logic ULM had better talent than Bama.

Did ya'll really think this thread would stay "gump free" ?

Anybody know anything about this kid? When I saw that he wanted to transfer to Bama, I didn't really think he'd get the opportunity. Now that he's on our team, I'm wondering what we've got. Frankly, I'm not sure if I want him since he didn't think he could crack the depth chart at LSU. We will lose some DB's over the next couple of years, but there's a lot of young talent waiting in line. If he's just not very good, he's likely to be 2nd string at Bama too.

Didn't his daddy say that he didn't want Phelon to attend Bama, b/c of Saban's a-hole attitude?

Highly recruited 4 star from Mobile, I believe.

He's a good player, definitely will be in your two deep.
The story here is that Les likes the kid and his family a lot.
I applaud Les for having integrity on this. Now lets see if Saban returns the favor.... When he is at Penn State next year.

He was very highly recruited. Alabama wanted him back then, too. He came here with his HS teammate, DE Sidell Corley, Jr.
Phelon simply got beat out by two kids in the class after his....Patrick Peterson (#1 corner in the nation) and Brandon Taylor. We already had (now) senior Chris Hawkins (starter) and another former #1 CB Jai Eugene. Phelon was buried in the depth chart because we have so much talent at the position.
Granted...our former DB coach refused to play a CB as a nickel...insisting on playing a safety...so none of those guys saw the field last year. That should change, but Phelon's depth chart position did not.

Oh I guess I should mention a few other things:
He is not 6'1" like rivals said. LSUsports.net has him at 6'0", and many rantards say he is shorter than that...more like 5'10" or 11".
LINK
I have heard it said the reason he was passed up was that he had trouble learning the playbook. I have no idea if that is true, but some rantards have been saying it.
