I dont think Irvine will put the pressure on the bases like they did 2 years ago.

I think they will if they get on, maybe thats another reason to throw Ross, don't think he has as long a delivery as Ranaudo

But you can't go to a Regional and never at least have the opportunity the throw your ace. If LSU falls into the losers bracket, I would almost guarantee Ranaudo would pitch if he doesn't start the series off.

i agree but inthe ole six ream regionals skip would throw a lesser pitcher in elim game and use his better guy in champ game 1 now if it didnt work he lost with lesser pitcher

I think the reason you aren't seeing his name thrown around is "who's had the better career"? Not that I agree with it, but it factors in. Plus, alot of Alsup's great outings were in games where the outcome was already decided.

Adding on, if Alsup has another solid outing, maybe better than Ross, you could see him possibly start a game 2 in the supers.

I would take the gamble and go with Ross. Im looking at UCLA and if we play them I want Ranaudo against there pitching

I really think that things have clicked for Alsup, like what happened for Coleman during his junior year.

Josh, what would you do?

I would start Ross and hopefully come away with a victory and throw Renaudo against UCLA and hope he's throwing strikes.

Tough decision, right now, my gut tells me to throw Ranaudo and seize momentum if he's mowing them down. I think of Ross as more of a contact pitcher, but if he finds a way to throw like he did in the middle innings of the Vanderbilt game, it wont' matter. I think Ranaudo can completely shutdown UCI if he's on.

Start Ross and hope like heck he can beat them. Hope our bats give us enough run support to win.

Game 2 will either be against UCLA, or an elimination game.

I want my Ace for Game 2.

In my mind, I'm already there.

You'd take the chance of going home without throwing your ace?

Against Kent St.? Yes...but, I'm not a coach. There are many reasons on deciding on a pitcher for a game and I'm going on a fan's perspective. I don't know anything about Kent St. hitting tendencies, etc. Ranaudo may very well be the best option here. I just like the idea of saving him for a higher quality opponent in a losers bracket or as a reliever as some have suggested.

id say you have to take that chance. In fact i wouldnt even throw alsup. If you are in the losers bracket, you have to hedge your bets. And you would be better off taking risk against Kent than Irvine or UCLA.

This is exactly what I am thinking. You start Ross in Game 1, which I think he is more than capable of winning. You refrain from announcing the pitcher until the UCLA/Kent game is done. If Kent, Alsup goes and you can use Ranaudo for the champ game. OR If we lose game one and still face Kent, you can still start Alsup, but keep Ranaudo their for a possible relief stint. I just think starting Ross is the way to start the regional.

thats one of the real disadvantages we have. Both of these teams run and we don't hold runners very well. When was the last time we threw someone out stealing?

LOL....As I've gone through this thread, I have changed my mind at least 5 times between Ranaudo and Ross... and I believe I'm leaning toward Ross in Game 1, so we can pitch Ranaudo against UCLA Saturday.

Nonetheless, Whoever PM goes with Game 1, I'm cool with.
