You have no clue son. He is the son of a coach and his dad was a son of a coach. He anchored the offensive line in Atlanta for years. He read the defenses and made the adjustment calls for Matt Ryan for Matt's first years until Matt could learn to call the adjustments himself later. Recruiting is all he would be green at. please..

Yeah, let's hire someone who's never coached before to coach at a major football program. GENIUS!
How the F do you play all those years in the NFL and make the Pro Bowl for most of them and not retain any knowledge of what it takes to play OL and how to teach those techniques to college OL's?

Have to think the decision was made before Stud announced he's leaving. And I would think Cam made the decision under Les' guidelines - to keep recruiting in mind.

We'll see some interviews for PR purposes but I have to think the top candidates are Andy Moeller and Todd Washington.

Both have NFL cred and most importantly, both have worked with Cam before. Cam knows what he's getting with these guys, no chances taken on unproven guys.

Although Hal Hunter is the only LSU HC to win 100% of his games and he worked with Cam at San Diego, he just took a new position with Indianapolis. Thus we can assume he will not be moving.

Bob Bostad would be a good hire as well, although he has not worked with Cam before. If neither Moeller nor Washington wish to move back to the college ranks, Bostad could be it. A lot depends on the money offered.

On what basis? His (Mawae) resume is blank.

How about 16 years in the NFL. 6 consecutive pro-bowls and 8-time All-Pro. He understands what it takes to be on a unit that tied the NFL record in the NFL of fewest sacks allowed. He understands how the job needs to be performed on the o-line after being in the NFL for 16 seasons what it takes to stay there. He understands what it takes to do the job in the trenches at a high-level. That is not something just any o-line coach, lacking actual playing experience, can teach.

Not saying he's the best hire, but that would be his case versus someone who just coached on a bunch of teams but didn't actually play the position at a high level. O-line coaching is development and teaching. He would have real-time insight into what to do when a defense changes up what they're doing. Real-world, "on-the-job" training is the best kind you can get. It gives way to practical experience. It's a matter of applying principles/techniques with practical experience which is what this line has been missing. Williford said as much during an interview when he was helping the team out this season.

yeah, let's select completely unproven position coaches with no experience because they were former LSU players, good call. Another hilarious Rant post. We are not ULM, we don't have to pick from crumbs, we pick from top notch, already proven talent.

My candidate list would include:
Bob Bostad
Jack Bicknell Jr
Hal Hunter

Someone else with both college and NFL experience.

Just because you 'have knowledge' does not mean you can communicate it or teach it. It takes a special person to be able to verbalize what he wants to an 18 yr old college player and have them internalize that and execute that behaviour. It's not just x's and o's. You also have to be able to relate to the players. We need someone who has proven that they have these traits, not learn on the job.

Looks like Mawae does indeed want to be the OL coach

LMAO at all the Rant "experts" in this thread bashing anyone who mentioned KM as a possible candidate for the OL coaching job.
