I cannot imagine why Les would want to go there. Its very hard for them to even be decent.

I personally believe it's because of his age. Although I suppose it's possible that he really doesn't care to coach anymore, but he's just going thru the motions that are required of him to continue to receive his buy out.

His main, in-state rival, has a head coach in his 80s.
Puka Williams from Hahnville is at KU.

think some of you forget the brand of football Miles played before coming here and really prior to the pick 6 season.

I came here to say this. Miles was not always bland on offense. He wouldn’t try to toss dive his way to wins at Kansas.

I hope he gets the job.

Yeah I just assumed Miles was taking a break and collecting paychecks and would eventually start seriously seeking a coaching job. He won’t be coveted by top programs but a program like Kansas should absolutely snap him up.

Kansas, much like Indiana and Kentucky, is a basketball school first and foremost. They’re generally satisfied with going 7-5 or 8-4 and going to a lower tier bowl. The odd losing season is acceptable, and the even rarer 9-3 or 10-2 season with a good bowl is always a pleasant surprise. All in all, it’s a way of marking time in the fall for them until hoops tip off.

All that being said, I think this is a perfect spot for Les to wind down his career. Expectations will always be relatively low and they should be happy with what he would produce there.

He's a good man and a huge improvement at Kansas. I could see him having them bowl eligible most seasons with a couple 8 - 9 win seasons

Depends on how many chances he takes on guys that are talented but may have baggage.

If he recruits in the top 25-30. Who knows what he could do. He won’t win any conference championships but he could win 6-7 games and that would be spectacular

I think he’d improve them but never get to 6 wins.

He needs good coordinators and I’m not sure they have the want to pay those coordinators.
he also needs players. Good luck with that. Miles getting players to come to Okie State or LSU is one thing, but it's entirely another with Kansas.

I wouldn't touch that job, if I were Les, but I realize it may be all he can get.

I think he’d do well there. He can recruit and players love him.

News flash, Miles is a VERY good coach!!! He recruits with the best of them, runs a honest program and the players and families love him. Miles biggest drawbacks that cost him his job were stubbornness "to understand he needed to change his offensive philosophy just like Saban did - look at the success of Saban with that change" and blind loyalty "Miles was given the chance to stay and coach the entire year when he was fired if he would have fired Cameron." Miles decided he couldn't fire his good friend Cam Cameron so that decision was taken from him and he was fired.

If Miles has learned his lesson he will be extremely successful. But also understand KU is a bottom dweller in football the bar is so low that any decent coach will have them competing in a few years and someone with Miles talent will be their HERO!!!

The game has evolved since then and, as we all know, he has not however!
LSU hasn't yet evolved enough to displace even one of his his Top 4 all time scoring offenses here at LSU (2017 Media Guide/Records).
In fact, out of 11 seasons, Bebe has bettered only Miles very worst offense, 2009, so there's that.

This. Les averaged almost ten wins a season here.
Where are all the Orgeron apologists who can explain that an old Head Coach "learned his lessons" and is a "different man"?

yeah the recruiting is the downfall IMO. not to say he couldn't do it, but I'd be curious to see how.

where were Mangino's kids from primarily?

I think he would do good. Just kinda depends on how much Kansas would want to invest in their program. He was always good at convincing good coaches to join him but of course that depends on how much they are willing to pay. Les is always good for a few upsets if he goes back to his mad hatter ways.

I frankly think he would fail spectacularly unless he COMPLETELY revamped his approach to offense.

And, if he did that.........I frankly think that random LSU fans should whip his arse.

Bill Snyder just turned 79 last month. And he's been at Kansas State for 27 of the last 30 years. He was there from 1989 until 2005, left for 3 years and now he's been there for the past 10 years.

Yes, he's older than Miles, but he did have a history with that program before returning to it at the age of 69.

But I agree, if a school (KU) wanted to gamble on hiring a 65 year old coach, Miles may get an offer from them.
