I can't believe.(acutally yes i can) the amount of posts pertaining to our inability to hit the baseball. In case you guys missed it we scored 3 runs last night against one of the top 10 pitching staffs in the country. I thought the Texas pitchers played their arse off. But i would not go as far as to criticize our at bats because their starter threw 80 pitches in 5 innings. Thats how you know you're having good at bats.

I was impressed with what I saw from TX pitching. It was a battle of the pitchers last night.

You are way too logical and level headed for this board.

Texas could’ve thrown Roger Clemens last night and most here would claim we are overrated and horrible hitters with the performance we saw.

Yes, and they have more than we saw. They cracked first, though, with the free passes. And we cashed in.

They were good. Ours were better. That was the difference.

If you’re going to make a run at a CWS you have to figure out how to win some games even when you’re having a bad night.

Both team’s pitching were very good with ours shining in the end. Both teams left a lot of runners on base due to not getting contact. Fricking umpire was very inconsistent with the strike zone We were directly behind home plate and could see what he was calling.

All of the relievers they threw were their normal weekend or high leverage guys.

The only outlier from that standpoint was the starter. But, he was a reliever last year, is in his third year in college, and is working with a new pitching coach. He's throwing in the midweek because he didn't have enough consistent control to put him on the weekend but they wanted to get him a lot of innings to work it out because his stuff is so good.

Based on his first couple starts of the season (and of his career), he's well on his way. Up to 97 last night consistently. Good slider, great splitter. I think he will be on the weekend for them at some point this season, and sooner rather than later. And I think he put himself on the draft radar last night.\

Woody Williams is a good pitching coach. He was kind of toiling in anonymity for a while at San Jac, because no one pays attention to JUCOs. But he was developing a lot of guys there and moving them on to 4 year schools or pro ball. Looks like he's helping Lebarron Johnson put it all together.

Exactly. And against a good team in a really intense environment. One game is just one game, but last night was a good win.

I assume he's talking about the bats. We did a good job of working counts all night, but didn't come through with a big hit until the 9th. Overall a great team win.

Seeing as this is a thread aimed at the offense, I’d say scoring 0 runs through 8 innings and having 16 strikeouts would fall squarely into the “bad night” category.

you underestimate how important is to work pitch counts for a pitcher that is dealing like the one we faced last night. you have to be very discipline which is something last year I thought we lacked a lot of at the plate.
