I think the SEC is just doing this to supplement the NCAA to avoid these rogue state court decisions. Conferences have a much different relationship to their members than the NCAA has to schools/players. This all started with the Big12 doing the same thing to TTech over Sorsby.

I'm interested in this angle to the extent that it really seems like the SEC setting up a breakaway from the NCAA with this. And it's going under-discussed while everyone froths at the mouth about Lane Kiffin.

I think it's the exact opposite.

Well that one is truly black and white…you don’t bet, especially on your own team.

Eligibility has been a very grey area especially since COVID and they allowed it to be. That’s why I even said with Chambliss, it’s bullshite but they opened this can of worms years ago so it is what it is

I lean towards P.

I think this is the SEC saying the NCAA may be powerless but as we drift toward the super conference, we will have actual authority

That's still a supplement to the NCAA, until the SEC were to blatantly enact a rule in violation of NCAA rules. THAT would be when it gets fun, if that ever occurs.

I think they are clearly aligned right now, however. The SEC knew the NCAA was going to lose, and they did what the Big12 did, then got sued, and then it became a thing.

It’s also annoying that this really became about us vs. the SEC and not whether or not these guys should be eligible.

I legitimately believe that if pretty much any other school had been the first to sign one of these players, there would have been some initial clickbait outrage over things being out of control, and then back to normal 24 hours later

Are you comparing this to Sorsby who was doing actually illegal shite?

Arkansas just put out a baseball roster with Zack Stewart on it. He played 7 games in the independent professional Pioneer League. He's currently applying for a 5th year. But is rostered (fall rosters aren't NCAA official).

But Arkansas fans will tell you that LSU is breaking rules.

I don't think we can discount the idea of the SEC doing this to hurt LSU in recruiting. The rest will be happy to follow along although not ultimately removing LSU, just sling mud for a while.
